2000 ford f150 front drivers side brake doesn’t release in three miles yesterday had smoke coming from rotor. New caliper, rotor, bracket. And pads just a little while ago. Replaced for the same problem. What else could it be?
The next easiest and cheapest thing to check/ replace is the brake hose going to the caliper. Sometimes the inside of the brake hose can break down and pieces get stuck in the caliper area. This will let fluid flow in due to the pressure but won't let it flow out when you let off the brake. I know this happened to me and thatth what the problem was. It may be something else but that's a good place to start.
I checked the flow compared to other side. But did not think of the return with no pressure. Will get a new line in am. Thank you blacksmith
X3 or 4. Had a 93 Chevy 2500. 2 years old and the brakes always squealed. A guy told me the same thing. Somehow, somewhere in there a piece of rubber gets loose and flops over the hole and won't let fluid return.
Blacksmith nailed it, might as well do both and bleed the whole system , again. Just did the daughters car this past Sunday.
I’d like to understand how that works a little better. Never had an opportunity to operate anything with that scenario.
Well up until recent years you had to be driving an 18 wheeler to use one. Here is how the "Jake brake" works...there are other systems too...some just close the exhaust off.
not a jake brake, jake brake is mechanical and very complex built into the engine . exhaust brake uses the turbo or valve to close of exhaust off. Pick ups do not use jake brakes.
Work is getting in the way. So i Ordered both hoses today won’t be in til Thursday ( my other work day ) And dr appt friday. So cant fix til Saturday papadave hope the popcorn holds out.
I had this problem with my plow truck, drove me crazy! I had never heard of this before. A guy at work told me what it was. Good luck!
The jake is an awesome helper. Back when I was into heavy trucking I owned and ran a Western Star withe a 500 Cat in it. I could come off a 6% grade loaded up to 105,500 pounds and never touch the air brakes.. Ran a big rig up until 2012 when I retired... 500 cat...18 speed Ranger tranny.. Fun rig to drive... The brake hoses spoken of at the start of the thread...I agree 100% Many times the caliper pistons can get sticky, but in this case the hose is likely the culprit. Good luck on the fixumup...
