This was fun, different style of cutting then I am used to. Was in a lift cutting smaller limbs most of the day. I trimmed back two maples and a pine tree around and over a house. I really enjoyed it, and man that is more of a workout then I though it would be on the arms. Grabbing branches with one hand and tossing them over the side of the house. And running a sweet Stihl top handle!

Working the tops of a tree is definitely a different beast.....The lift makes it a little easier, but as you found out it still is work!

    Looking good bud!

Nice! Was it difficult to work that lift? I am considering something like that to cut back along my property line.

The lift was great, and a breeze to work. It self levels and all the controls on this one are controlled with two fingers. One for speed and the other direction. Very simple.

A lift really isn't that expensive here, full day is less then $200

That's not bad… you can do an awful lot of things when you can "fly" around instead of using ladders. Was that the type of lift on wheels, and you can roll with it too?

I have rented a similar lift twice. Once when doing roof - the one I used had short jib boom and I was able to position the basket on roof to place bundles - also used it to do lay snow and ice barrier and edge of roof work.
Second time use to take tree down. A bit of a wabble when at full extension - one needs to "be comfortable while being uncomfortable" - i.e. get use to sway of lift. But as mentioned $200 bucks towable - other lifts much more costly. Set it up so branches dont fall on unit below..
One word of advice - when leveling the lift - set the outriggers firmly - raise the lift up a bit with them - like when using backhoe outriggers - if you dont - you have what happened to me - got up high - shifted boom out and the machine came out of level and auto shuts off - have cell phone with you - or someone in shouting distance.

One limb broke off onto the sunroom with not much damage but this one has to be dealt with as it will go through the roof for sure :hair:;)
