Lucy is getting swabbed today. This is pretty excessive cost-wise, but my day job involves this sort of data with cattle, and I was curious how the process works with this test.

A colleague of mine who is a genomics bioinformatics guy, and a dog nut, got carried away with a side project a few years ago and offered up testing and analysis for anyone who was interested on a cost basis, I think it was $100 bucks for the data production, and he did the analysis for free. I had Oliver and Willow done, I know Baileys genetics and and other two hounds wouldn't cooperate for him with the cheek sampling. I'm sure the comparable data set is a lot larger and more powerful now, they both came back with a large portion as "undefined", which if you know Oliver is kinda fitting:D. I'd be interested to see your report. Here's Oliver's.

Nice reports - I’ll post results. Oliver looks quite unconcerned. Looks like this kit goes to GeneSeek - their name is not on the packaging, but their address is on the sample kit. It was $85 for the basic test, and for more $ they will make some disease predictions. Lucy came with a story of being Lab/Shepherd, but we aren’t fully convinced based on her personality.

They wont care about the smell... I just wash the blood off and reset mine. Marshmellows with grape cool aid or honey or even vanilla are great coon bait... Good Luck....

The price of the chips is coming down I'm sure. Adam Boyko the founder of Embark came to Jax and gave a talk, it was quite interesting. Here is Willow's report, we thought she was a lab/beagle because she came from a Lab breeder who had a litter come out a little odd and her neighbor has Beagles:rofl:

Very nice - looks like the Beagle side of the family did more wandering and visiting than the Lab side did over the years!
Cow tests run around $45 now, which includes order-taking handling on the front end, lab costs and profit, third-party predictions for 40+ traits and parentage, and report distribution as well as resolving parentage conflicts. I suspect someone is pocketing a tidy sum for these dog tests.
Here’s some of the USDAs work on tracking chromosome-level effects for individual traits. Use of Chromosomal PTAs

Nice weather today, good chance to get Maple off leash since surgery after a short jaunt to warm her leg up! She went down into the pond and then ripped up stringy bark. So happy!

No skeeters up here Loon. Raining now, supposed to turn to ice storm overnight into tomorrow and then 1-3" of snow. With a foot of frozen snow still on the ground our skeeters and ticks are still hibernating.
