Get some wedges oh, they accomplish two things one they keep the tree from sitting back on the bar. And second they're good little persuasion to get it to go the way you want.
I think I told you you did this the way I would have which DOES NOT mean right!

I consider a tree down and nobody hurt a success.

Don't give up Chaz. You get better with experience and learning from others.

Not to worry, I know my skill level is low, but one doesn't get better without practice.

    Thx for moral support.

Yep wedges are on the shopping list.

Tree on the ground, guy with the saw unhurt and vertical. I'd say you did ok, even if you didn't land it on the dime you had laid down a few yards off. :)

Pepere used to shove a stick in the ground where the tree was going to fall, or drop a coin down right where it was going to land.. Can't say I recall any misses. True WW2 generation badass. In his early 90s now, he's building a man cave in the basement. Despite many offers of help, all he'd let me do was carry sheetrock through the Bilco doors.

    Thx BigPapi
    :)

Yep, I'm still walkin, talkin, typin, so all is good.

I mentioned before that I won't cut where I can "break" things.

There was no worries about it landing wrong, but I am trying to put into practice some if the information provided.

I usually use a guide rope for pulling, and I could've used a snatch block pulley, but wanted to freehand this one.

I've got lots to practice on.

It's important to get the right size.... What if that wedge didn't fit a tree you were working on. :hair:

We used to play all the time in the woods. Had to drive a stake in the ground every time before felling a tree. Had to be able to drive that stake into the ground all the way else bad things might happen to you later in the day...

Sounds about right, Savage. He taught me to use a stick cut to arm's length to pinpoint where the top would land - blew my mind as a young buck to see it work! I'll remember that day and plenty else for a long time.

Final installment on the ash tree.

Got it all cut today, and a bit of cleanup.

    Now it's beer O'Clock.

As you can see, I cut the rest of the stump as well, but those two can sit till the splitter comes to them.

    Hope y'all have enjoyed watching.
