Most all the fruit trees we have in the US were brought here from othe countries. No sure about persimmons. The apricot tree we have was here when we moved here in 1991. It's the first fruit tree to bloom here. Should bloom next week.

They say there are native persimmons in PA. Out of curiosity and fun I was doing research a while on native PA fruit trees and northern tropical trees. Just a side fun fact. Pawpaw is the most northern tropical fruit in the US. I never heard of them until a few years ago.

My grandma had the largest persimmon tree in our co. for years. We ate them by the handfuls. I know where there are a few wild ones growing near me.

I planted 7 or 8 pawpaw's from seed a couple years ago at camp. They are only about 18 " tall right now. Many years till they will fruit. If I can remember in the summer once the leaves are out I'll post a couple pics. The leaves are huge.

I think I found a native in an overgrown lot in Myrtle. Got lucky in October when I was down there for a wedding. They were like pure sugar. Very small maybe 1.25" diameter.

Pawpaws grow like weeds around here. Can't walk through the woods without seeing a thousand of them.

That's so cool. I saw my first pawpaw tree only few years ago after tracking down a almost hidden grove in a big Pittsburgh park. Eventually I found a guy that has a few varieties on his property. That's where I got my first fruit and seeds.

Persimmon is a native tree of the mid south US
Obviously a multitude of cultivars from Asia with larger fruit have been introduced throughout the world- with better fruits
Tend to be a pioneer tree that take hold on edges of logging roads and clear cuts. Occasionally a large tree will be left to grow on a hedgerow.
Glossy oblong leaves with a point at the end and they tend to be the first to change color in mid September with red hues near insect damage.

That’s awesome, pawpaws are one of my favorite fruits.
I wanted to plant some but don’t have the necessary canopy for them to thrive, they are seriously my favorite fruit. Also very good for the zebra butterfly if I’m not mistaken
