Brain Teaser. Wood ID.

Dogwood?

 

I have no idea but I'm gonna say Bigtooth aspen, just because I think Bigtooth aspen sounds cool and I like saying it.

Not dogwood but that is in my top 3 favorite woods to burn.
Had to look up bigtooth aspen. it does grow around here but i have never cut any so that's not it. it does sound cool.

It did remind me of that when i split it and just as heavy as green mulberry but thats not it.

 

Is this a native or ornamental tree?

 

Kentucky coffee tree - but the bark isn't right. I'm not sure on this one.

 

I have some, supposedly, Kentucky coffee wood I've been burning a bit of this year. I'm still convinced it's honey locust despite the guy who gave it to me being totally adamant of it being coffee wood

 

brought to the US by the early settlers.
