Skeeter, I wouldn't protest if a pic of a green tractor on the orange tractor at play/work thread showed up now & then. :D

Skeet, does the bull gear [terminology?] (the gear driving the rack) spin constantly and the lever drops the rack down on it for motion?
What would happen if a hillbilly got a hold of one of them and put a 100 or so pound flye

    Yes you are correct.
I think the HD model has hundred pounders, these are 75.
    There's one on youtube with a 3rd flywheel and a 4 way.

    Edit...HD model is 90lb flywheels.

Can someone tell me more about those tire studs? Can you remove them in the summer?

I took mine out of the front tires after the first winter. It left small holes where they were and that spot was no longer suitable for the stud next season, at least that was my judgement as this was my first experience with them. I have left them in year round since without any trouble.
I think I'm on my 4th season with them, some are "leaning" back from doing their work on what has seemed to be an icy 2 years pushing more than a few heavy, crappy rained on snows and frozen banks.
I've been wondering if I should have installed more of them "spreading out the load" to half again more studs. I travel about 6-8 miles of roads each storm doing my customers and just can't see wearing out conventional chains let alone the miserable ride and the inevitable possibility of damage to a customers driveway surface.

It seems I hit post before I got my thought's out. (flye.....) but you got it right, flywheel.
I don't have huge logs, most 10-12 inches BUT need a good 30" stroke for my boiler. I wonder where one could come up with a longer & heavier rack to completely build one?

I buy studs for my waders.
Get them from Kold Kutter Home page
They are made for ice racing motor cycles, I'll bet they get more abuse from a cycle than a tractor.
They come in different thread lengths and the head is dished out and hardened to last.
They last very good and stay put. If you want you can screw them out later.

Very cheap too, about .10 ea.

Looks like the hut works out. I have been looking at something similar as a set up. Any advice?
