So a couple months back a neighbor down the street has a nice big sugar maple taken down. Tree service cuts everything into nice 16” rounds and leaves it. Figure someone is taking it but asked anyways. I was right that they already had a hoarder lined up to take it but told me they we’re having another maple(silver)taken down soon. They say that the person who took the last one wanted about half of it but I could have the rest and that they would coordinate a day where we could work together with them and get it all cut and split. Great, love a little wood work with fellow hoarders. Lots of really nice straight limbs on this tree ranging from 12-24” I’d say. Probably at least 3 cord just in all the limbs. Massive 4’ trunk on this thing that I really don’t want to mess with but as long as I have help from some fellow hoarders we’ll git R done.

So today they come down while I’m at work and tell my wife the tree is down and I can have at it. She texts me at work and I’m giddy as a school girl. Get home and take a walk over there and this is what I find.

Nothing but trunk pieces left that are huge! The pictures don’t show just how massive these things are. There’s no way to even move these things unless you have some sort of machinery. So looks like other guy got all the limbs and left this behind. Didn’t talk to homeowners but I seriously hope they aren’t expecting me to do anything with this. They’re going to have to get someone with a loader to deal with it.

Stinks it was cherry picked before you got there.

Did you think about noodling into manageable portions part way through and hitn’m with a maul?

Yes I did especially because I just picked up a new 395 that I wanna try out but I don’t know. I hate dealing with that big stuff and this will be the biggest I’ve ever tried.

Haha! That would be something to see. Wheelbarrowing 800 pound rounds down the street. Come to think of it, it’s only about 10 house away and it’s downhill:loco:

I dunno, I'd pass too. You got the BIG end of the maple... If no takers tell them you'll do it for a fee?

That s#@&s! :headbang: Ive experience the same with urban roadkill. The skinnies and manageable pieces are gone and the behemoths are left. Id leave it way too big to do by yourself, unless you know someone with a loader.

I'd be all over it with a 24" bar and a 395. You'd have it quartered in a couple hours

Unfortunely... Thats usually the size I end up with... Since most people don't want or have the equipment to deal with that size.... Good or bad.... Thats what i get to deal with...'

I agree with your decision. That is a lot of work for silver maple. If a premium hardwood, sign me up, but not for shoulder season wood......:dex:

I get it, but most are not serious hoarders. I would find a way...no equipment. I’ve worked a technique where I roll the giant pieces to my F150 tailgate step, then roll them up on the step then roll them again into the bed. Not pretty but works. I’ve learned the tailgate step is durable :)

If you need the wood fine but if you don't forget about it. Looks like fairly typical tree service cut wood - no consistent lengths but at least they aren't all cut on an angle.

Man step my azz!!! Lol .

I never thought of that, it does work great to get into the truck though as a person step.

With all of these crazy tailgates, we need a factory Tommy lift that looks like a standard tailgate.

That's massive stuff g60gti . I'd probably noodle it if you need more wood. I'd take my time too, like 2 rounds taken a day, every day after work.

It's not like anyone will steal it on you. If they do, they obviously need it more than you.

Stephiedoll has one of those powered lift gates on her truck. Excellent time to use that here for sure.

I like the little bit at a tie approach. Don't quite know how I'd grab it, but I'm sure I'd be there.....maybe!
