I guess I'm done for the season... My pos tankless water heater died for the second time in four years so my cash wont go for pellets. The wife is slightly pee'd having to shower across the street at my grand daughters place.
The coil on my tankless hot water heater went too, but it was after 20 years. I also ran out out pellets, but bought ten bags to get through the few chilly nights left.
Why is she going across the street? Seems like a perfect opportunity for a health boosting cold shower regimen.... go buy more pellets so she can warm up in front of the stove afterwards... 7 Surprising Cold Shower Benefits For Your Body And Skin
So AO Smith sez they will replace my water heater under warranty... this is the second time! First replacement was about 4 years ago. The only hiccup is the plumbing contractor I had do the install has retired. The new owner is a useless as the old one. The only thing either was good for was padding the bill. So I don't have a receipt... went to Lowe's and told them I bought it there. Need an AO Smith retailer to do the swap new to old. I'll do the install. Lowe's no longer carried that stove in their store. I bought my first one there the plumber likely got #2 from a wholesaler. Might not be able to use Lowe's... This damm thing has haunted me since new. I paid $650.00 to Lowe's for heater #1. The jerk plumber charged me $900.00 + to do the original install. Now, looking over the original bill from 2011, I think he also charged me $1000.00 for the heater I provided!!! The whole bill was just shy of $2G's... I was on the road during this first 'no hot water' crisis so my sweetie handled most of the whole situation. Not blaming her... I should have looked a little closer at that bill. The he charged me $900.00 to replace the faulty heater... same water lines, hook-up, electical, etc. Pretty much plug and play. So I refused to pay the whole bill...screw him. I think I wound up giving him $400.00. So I'm persona non gratis at his old business. Thought I might at least go ask for a copy of the bill telling owner #2 I want to pay the bill but I need the paperwork from crook #1. But I'm a bad liar. Film at 11...
That just plain sucks. It's one thing to have a contractor pad the bill but quite another for him to charge you for the part you supplied! Grrrrr... If you lived close, you and I would do the install. I've done a bunch of them. You could pay me in pellets!
Hard to beat a smaller(30-40 gal) electric, high quality water heater,on a timer. With extra insulation around it.
I almost bought a tankless water heater for the new place when I moved last summer. The plumber I was using talked me out of it. As he said, you’ll save a few bucks on the gas bill, but it’s no fun having no hot water if the control board takes a dump. I ended up with a 50 gallon water heater from Home Depot. Nice and simple, the way God and nature intended.
I had a 50,but high quality. As just me here, and several weeks in summer, friends and family, went to a 40,when old one died.I almost bought a cheaper one from lowes/home despot, checked the life expectancy,I bought the more expensive one from the same place i purchased the original.Maybe i spent too much, but the first one did excellent.
