Have a few truckloads to process today. Already bucked, just have a 2 mile trip to bring home , split & stack.
The other white wood.... I really like that wood. Seasons nicely, splits fairly decent, and a solid shoulder season wood. Great grab
Hackberry is great, I put it right up there with Ash. Hope you have a splitter though, it reminds me of Elm when it comes to splitting.
I've never cut any hackberry yet, not sure it even grows much in our zone here in PA......I've heard it's a decent wood though.... Great score!
Hackberry... I like that term, "The other white wood"!!! We cut a lot of it around here... Can be very stringy, and can be very straight grained... It all depends on it's growing conditions... Much like Ash.. Dries relatively fast like Elm... Burns a lot like Ash... This is a vid of a rather large Hackberry I dropped in a fence row clearing last Fall. We took out almost 200 trees... Most of em were Hackberry's... Around here, bugs really hit it hard and it doesn't weather well past about 2 years unless you can keep it dry. Then it's great!
You guys must have a similar tree mix to us... What's the Odds??? A Cherry and Hackberry in the same shot!!
One thing I've learned about Hackberry is that it's super sensitive to roundup. I regularly spray poison ivy and have three dead Hackberries because of it, didn't even get it on the leaves.
