Been thinking about building one lately... then I had a brain fart... since my JD is only a baby... and doesn’t have that high of a lift capacity (height wise)... I was thinking that since I’ve got this winch sitting in the garage collecting dust. Could I use it to basically suck the log up to a set point and then put the choke chain on? That way I can use the what height that I do have to actually pick the log up high enough?

Chvymn99 What baby JD do you have? Where would you be looking to mount it?

It’s the X720 JD... the biggest Garden tractor before the subs.... looking at mounting on the carry all... it won’t be used all that much, but would be nice in certain circumstances...

I think I got it mostly figured out... just have to cut and weld. And then verify... before fully welding it on...

Got the winch portion... tacked up.... Think I’ll get another square tube reducer for the chain holder.... It fits my square tubes nicely.

Took it out for a test run...:tractor: ...it accomplished what I set out to start with. Now I just need to hook up the choke chain setup... drill my hole for the winch tube...possibly figure out a way to install something to go in the dirt to block off the JD...and figure out a way to get a battery installed and possibly a way to keep it charged....:sherlock:

I like it. Someone here, and I can't remember their handle, made a really nice setup with a winch mounted on the top of their box blade which included a regular 2" receiver so the winch was removable like yours. Yours probably has more height as you set out for.

Looks like a sweet setup. One thing to consider is trying to build an angled base plate or some teeth face back towards the pull, to avoid pulling your tractor. It looks like a 3500 lb unit, so a stubborn log or snag could yank the unit backwards. It might also reduce a little stress on the back end of that sweet green machine also!! Enjoy :dex:

Thanks...:handshake: ... Yea I noticed that yesterday... the carry all already has an angle back on the very bottom.. I shoved it in the ground and threw the front bucket into the ground... really stabilized the JD....
