    SIL's house today.

    The neighbors were having trees removed this morning. I'm still not clear on the arrangement, but SIL was having some of her trees bundled in with the neighbors removal deal. A decent size oak fell the wrong way.

    Insurance disaster response team is there shoring up the walls and roof now. I'll update as I hear things.

    Does "know your target and what lies beyond" come into play?

    It may have been a logging company and not a tree service you would think of in a residential neighborhood. Sounds like they may have insurance, altough the disaster response team is her carrier.

    Thats good but i would hate to come home to that. Looks like she and her family will have to stay somewhere else while the house is fixed.

    They have a second home that was being readied to rent where they can stay. She is getting a housing allowance since she can't rent the vacant one.

    There is...the neighbors who hired the lumber company was videotaping it when it happened. Not sure if or when it will be give to SIL. SIL is in very good spirits and the subcontractor (tree guy) to the lumber company has insurance. They initially left the scene but returned after talking with their insurance company. SIL had her ins disaster response team show up since the logging crew left and the lumber company's owner was heading to Oregon.

    Damage is extensive. Racked the whole structure. Hit the back, but cracked front walls, jarred the front picture window partially of it's framing. Front door won't shut. Basement wall is cracked back exterior wall will need reworked, it is bowed. Splintered 1/2 the trusses and went through ceilings in bathroom, back bedroom, utility room and kitchen. Strange thing is, no glass breakage.

    And that ladies and gentlemen is why I won't cut trees near anything that can be broken.
    :hair::bug::doh:

    Sounds like the damage may be to extensive for "simple repairs".

    Personally I think I would consider talking to a lawyer. Not for a lawsuit but to make sure you are protected. You want it fixed correctly the first time including hidden damage without having to worry.
