I MUST BE SICK. :( I just did the opposite of this thread. I JUST TURNED DOWN WOOD. :picard::picard:A friend I've known since childhood, lives about 2 miles from me, just called, said he was fixing to take down 2 big pecan trees with excavator. Did I want any of it??? I must have a fever....said I was swamped with wood right now....might have been scared of what hunny bunny would do....:heidi::pain:.... believe me, if he had said oak or hickory, I would have taken my chances with her...:whistle:

Some will split ok by hand, then you get the twisted pieces, about like hickory. Most pecan wood you get are limbs, because the trees are cut back to make more limbs , thus more pecans.
It's a great smoking/cooking wood, pops a good bit, so it needs to burn in a stove, makes a good bit of fluffy ash and small coals.

How far have you gone with the F150 to get a load of wood and how full was it? I drove 1 1/2 hrs across Connecticut to help a friend cut some wood last Summer then drove home with a heaping truck full! Sugar maple, red oak and ash if i remember correctly!

Welcome to the club cigarsmokingzombie :handshake:

No need to worry. You'll get lots of 'help' for your addiction here. Eventually you'll get the urge to buy more chainsaws, axes, mauls, wedges, hookaroons, etc. and maybe build a wood shed or three.....

I get about 1/3 chord per trip in my truck, so try to keep my distances less than 90 miles one way. I’m thinking 1/3 chord is worth about $60 and gas for 45 miles is $10-15 so I’m making off when it comes to dollars and cents not including the exercise and joy of doing it.

Only problem is the wear and tear on my new truck. When i fill up the back, it looks like it’s ready for takeoff. I can barely see over the dash.

Have you considered coil over shocks or air bags? When we got our dump trailer, I had to add bags to our F150, to help level it out. Easier than hooking up a weight distribution hitch each time. If you are gonna haul with your truck, that would be a good upgrade. You can get complete kits that have bags, tubing, fittings and compressor or just bag system and put air it them when you need it.

Good thing about bags is you can adjust the ride, with shocks, you can't.

She would probably just roll her eyes, tell me I'm crazy and go help me...lol
She doesn't like it when she starts splitting some that is spalted and it breaks off, she says it's rotten. I will do a short video of our inventory, might understand why she feels that way. I have some logs covered up that are 3+ yrs old. Some in my stacks that are 18 months+ old. Between my regular job and side jobs of cutting grass, putting on a few metal roofs, building a mud room in our house, it got left behind..

Yes, welcome cigarsmokingzombie, these people will help you. By help I mean add to, and support, not resolve or aliveate, a wood hoarding addiction. I don’t think it’s been a month yet since I joined. I have got more wood split & stacked in my yard than ever. ( might have enough for next season already) Plus have 2 of the nicest & biggest stacks I’ve ever made that are at my work ( wood heat there also) with more to process at both sites. They just keep saying things like “ nice stack, now make it taller.....” welcome:handshake:
