I've been eyeing these trees that were marked in the city every day on my way to and from work. It looks like someone got there before me, but there's more to be had and it will be bigger stuff when they cut the trunks down. These were just mostly branches. Some had to have been upper trunk pieces though. Yes, that's honey locust. I'm figuring that's a solid face cord of excellent firewood. I'll need to cut a few pieces before splitting it, as that's just what you get from City tree service workers. Now, I'll watch for the trunks to come down. If I can get them, that's 4-5 trees that are 15-20" dbh. I'd be stoked if I can get another load of wood from this score. I'm hoping that since this was all bigger stuff, and it's heavy wood, that the people that took the smaller stuff won't want any of it and I can take it all. If I could get it all, it's definitely a couple cords worth. I can fit 2/3 of a cord in the trailer at once. It's about a mile from my house, so multiple loads wouldn't be an issue.
Reading the thread title, I was like..... Go Horkn !! Way too many get a new truck and never use it for wood! Then I opened the post and saw a trailer attached to the new truck...… Just like yahoo home page-fake news? Oh well, ya got some good wood there anyway! And lets face it-you're just one day closer to the day you start throwing wood into the box of that truck!
Well, I got all that was cut. and there was room left in the trailer. I could've gotten more had I brought the saw too, I suppose. But then the cop that was watching for speeders would have frowned upon that probably. He pulled over 4 people in the short time I was scrounging. I waved hi to him as he was going back to his parking spot.
The trailer is lower, and easier to load. I can also load more in the trailer. There's times I will load wood in the bed, but not right now with my upcoming vacation to florida with this truck.
That will happen, but not this time, or hopefully tomorrow. There's nothing fake about the primo wood I have in my yard that wasn't there earlier today.
I could take it back if y'all think that's the right thing to do since I didn't put it in the bed of the truck. Not!!!!
I always hate when ive spied marked trees and they are finally cut and i miss out. Sometimes ill go and cut the big stuff if its primo and straight. Not crazy about cutting roadside and on rare occasion a cop has stopped by. But like you say the city tree service guys dont care and you get any length under the sun. City trees dont grow nice and straight either! Hope you get a lot more and best of luck with your new truck! Is it new new or used new?
The truck is a 2016, but it's loaded. So I got all the goodies I wanted, and quite frankly what I was used to with the Audi, but I didn't cough up the 65k sticker price. I'm very happy as I got a great truck that allows me to get a motorcycle upgrade this year too. I'll take all of these honey locust pieces I can get.
