Hello Fellow Hoarders, After getting some grief from a fellow hoarder about storing wood on the ground and my wife growing disgusted at my growing “stacks”, I decided to address it. I saw a nice design for a firewood holder, and gave it a whirl. I stained it to match my deck (which isn’t stained, but will look like this). It is designed to hold approximately half a cord on the bottom and about a quarter on the top. I plan to use the top for small sticks/kindling. This one is packed with what I think is Cottonwood. I had less of it than I thought! I plan to make two or three more. I like to separate my wood by species, so I know what I’m burning. Have a good Saturday!
No, not overdone. It has no roof. Still won't be overdone. I like the idea of small stuff/kindling on the top "shelf". Aaand, I see you have adequate "help".
Yes. Actually inherited it front my grandfather in October. There is a sticker that says 8.00 on it, I think he bought it at a garage sale, but don’t know when. He would’ve been 99 on the 13th of March. WWII vet.
Hi Sean, great looking rack...log rack that is! I like the top shelf for kindling or skinnies. Makes for nice support if you end up having to cover it as well. I also make mine to hold a half cord using reclaimed 2x4, 2x6 and/or 5/4 x6 deck boards. They are approx. 5' x 10' and hold a single row or 16" logs. Did you finish up that score from your neighbor?
That’s awesome man. My Dad (Master Carpenter) still has some vintage B&D power tools and My Father In Law is 94 years young as we speak. WW11. USMC 4 Division.. we we spent time with him and my Mother in Law in FLA a few weeks back. Good stuff..
Your pictures just gave me a moment of enlightened ignorance! I like the top shelf kindling idea. Seeings how I am a cheap scavenger hoarding pack rat according to my beautiful bride, only she uses a few more foul sentence enhancing words. Something that may give me a similar build and if I see one for give away or on a curb for city clean up week I will grab it, a bunk bed.
I did, but the ground is too wet to get the wood back to my stacks! With high wind and sun the past few days, there is a chance I will be able to get it tonight. Just waiting to see!
Funny you say that, I had bunk beds “similar” to this as a child and thought about them while I was building this.
I’m not really sure. This was my first year in the house and I think I went through ~1.5 to 2 cords. Which would mean I need at least 9, which is too much work and money LOL!
