Gents, Happy Saturday. I know that winter could still give us quite a kick in the privates, however, this winter has been so mild thus far that I'm not even halfway through what I normally burn. This is very welcome as I made the mistake of getting behind on wood for future seasons. Four cords of freshly split white wash were delivered in December and already some of the splits are measuring 14% on the outside. Assuming some blistering summer days, next burning season might not be so bad after all.
It's easy to get behind on wood if you've never been on the 3 year+ plan. Now, when you get there then it gets easier. So they say. I'm on the brink of getting there, have been for years, but that will be changing.
Never even heard of the 3yr plan till last year. Always struggled to have a 3week plan, he’ll, sometimes a 3 day plan, but you people have me motivated to try harder. Thanks
take one of the largest splits and split it in half then check with your moisture meter. I learned recently this is the correcct way to check %. I had year old splits that were over 20% to my surprise.
I'm hoping winter is just about at the end. Thinking strongly about removing the snow blade and also putting summer tires back on the car.
Processed most of the day today. I think I’m probably up to a 2 month plan now. The wife even pitched in a bit. Planning more of the same tomorrow.
Oh Yea! I got a little behind this year so I went out and got this Then I split and This was a Red Maple that was broke off and hung up about 4' off the ground for about a year so it is relatively dry. I will be mixing it in with the rest of my dry wood to get through this year and start working on a three year plan again. The wood in the foreground is Spruce and Pine that was cut in the fall. Maybe someday I will get there? In the mean time I will do what I have to do stay warm.
