I set up these traps in my shop with a glob of peanut butter on the pad. These damm things are so sensitive that they even scare the crap out of me when they spring suddenly. I have to set them CAREFULLY and eaaaaaassseee them over CAREFULLY with a flat blade screwdriver.

What can be so sneaky that it takes a glob of PB off the trap without setting it off? I know if I so much as touch the pad with a screwdriver it will snap.

    Thoughts??????

Instead of putting a glob of peanut butter onto the release of the trap, jam it into the holes provided on the trap. Any peanut butter on that release can be licked off by a mouse where as if it is jammed into the holes, they have to gnaw at it a little bit......BINGO!

Found this out years ago due to the same issue.

The bacon trick would darn sure catch me! I’ve got a fair amount of trapping experience, & mice can drive me crazy :hair:.

Never tried that or even heard of it. There is no bacon here that would make it to a mouse trap anyway!

Reminds me of recently a neighbor asked me about why his bait was always missing in a live trap but the trap was never tripped. My simple response was coon or possom. He caught a possom right after that.

Moparguy , I do as Dave suggested, but I don't usually use that type of "fake cheese" trap. Ya' gotta' make it more difficult for the little buggers to get the PB.
Still doesn't always work, but I've had very gooder success keeping chippies sorta' under control using that method. Actually saw one on a snow mound right outside the door yesterday, sniffing around.
I guess it's time for "game on" mode.

    try it.
we've had about the same luck as Moparguy with the cheese, and peanut butter.
bacon wrapped around the release worked for us.
    Miss July's trick. :handshake:

My trick is to get a Tootsie Roll...break a piece off and work it around in your hands until it is soft, then work it into the bait pad on the trap...when it cools its hard enough that the mices can't just lick it off...I have caught MANY mice with their front teeth just barely into the treat...best part is you just reset the trap, no need to re-bait...unless the trap was sprung for a while and another mouse came along and helped himself to his dead partners snack...as long as that doesn't happen, you can often get months out of one "baiting".
About the only other thing that will make the TR go away, is if it is in a very hot area (attic) in the summer and then it might melt.

Put PButter on the trigger and stick tin foil over it or even wrap the trigger with it. Wax paper will work too.
All critters are attracted to shiney stuff and the tin foil will make them work the bait harder and longer setting trap off.

Same here bren but I use gum. The civic I bought a few years back came from a farm and was told once a mouse gets in your vehicle the other little buggers no matter where it ended up smell their way into it?
Probably 2 dozen since I got it and found the chewed gum squished into the pad works the best.:coldone:

I’ve seen those on you tube, looks like they wood be pretty effective. I plan to give it a shot next time I have to battle the mice, (which probably won’t be to long). I’d kinda forgot about them though

Ditch the traps and google "bucket mouse trap". They work surprisingly good.

Gave up on cheese in the 80's. Switched over to PB and never looked back. I'm sure the bacon would work well but …………..
    kinda like sacrilegious!
