I’ve just gotten into the addictive hoarding business. Been driving by piles of wood going “damm that’s a nice pile”. My wife even gets me to stop to admire. Well, no more. Adding to my pile tomorrow some kind of hardwood. Please help identify! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Welcome to the forum. Great group of folks on here as ive discovered in a months time since ive joined. The wood is either black locust or honey locust. Possibly mulberry. Not 100% sure.
Good guess on mulberry. I’ll know when I get there tomorrow. I know mulberry. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ive never cut it or burned any. I remember one somehow seeded itself in my mom's backyard and grew like a weed. The gtound would be covered witht the berries and the birds loved them It was still there when her house was sold two years ago...probably 20-30 tall!
Yeah, the guy who owned the property didn’t know which leads me to believe it might not be mulberry. How would u not know the berries? The wood also doesn’t look that orange....more brown in the heartwood. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I wasnt 100% sure, but looked it up after i posted for my own satisfaction and it does look like the pics when i googled.
You answered your own question here. The birds love the berries; then they chit wherever they feel like! In this case, your mom’s yard. Same thing happened to me several years ago. Darn thing does grow like a weed for sure. Keep cutting the saplings down and more just pop up every year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
we didnt know what it was til it put out the berries. I wonder what size the tree trunk is now? Have you ever cut/burned any? Ive considered it a "weed" tree.
I’ve burned it before and it smells like cotton candy. I love it. Good for smoking meat too. I’m actually burning a couple of pieces now! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Never burned it, but have heard it’s a great firewood. I just cut and dispose of the saplings as they show up. I would have liked to let one grow, but they were right next to the Neighbor’s fence. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
