Interesting, here blizzard conditions include visibility below 1/4 Mile for 3 hours..

 

Enjoying mid to upper 60s this afternoon. Warms up nice when the sun is out. Scraped the potholes out of our drive as well as our Church. We'll probably get a foot of wet snow now that I have plenty of loose #57 limestone sitting on top of the drives and lots.

 

It's stupid windy outside.

First passes with the blade up! Couldn't tell you how many people I see drop the blade then get hopelessly stuck, or cant move more than 10' before spinning out.

I've cleared entire areas with 5' drifts. Make the first pass with the blade up, then back up and make the same pass again with the plow down, then nibble from there.

 

When the plow is raised, its probably about knee high max. More than enough to allow the truck to not get hung up in deep snow in my experience.

 

My morning visibility was awful, maybe 1/2 block. Slowly made my way to work. Maybe 1/3 at most showed up. Couple vehicles in the ditch on my way. 1/2 of the state is either no travel advised or roads closed. Since a couple people from my department made it in and another department, that I worked in 8 years ago, had only a shift supervisor show up I took pity on him and helped out down there. Kinda rusty but it did come back once I got the wheels turning. At the end of the shift he was very appreciative! Right now 1/2 of the state roads are still closed, icy as can be. Plow truck on a closed road was hit by a Califdummyian. If I didn't live and work in town I never would have left the house.

Luckily those kind of silos are underground so no wind chill to worry about

 

My town is high and dry. 30 minutes north not so much. The Platte River crested and was already ice jammed. Ruined a hwy and so Columbus NE is basically isolated at the moment. It should be accessible one way or another, but they’re saying it’s closed off. I’ll find some pictures and edit this post quick. Poor livestock stuck on islands (that used to be pasture) in the middle of the river now. I’d assume they’ll have to drop hay with helli’s for them. Lots of death loss and its calving season as you know so many friends had spent days dealing with blizzard conditions and trying to save calves only to lose them to the flooding anyways. I’ve seen pictures of piles of cattle that were drowned in the current and taken until a turn in the new river. Many bridges gone or damaged, so that’s take time to mend. Could always be worse. One thing about the Midwest, folks aren’t afraid to help $$ wise or jump right in when they hear of needs. I feel helpless as we gotta wait for the water to recede and in many places it’s still getting worse due to melting snow run off upstream
