It got to 40 yesterday, and 83 inside the stove room. It’s the first time since last summer that I’ve seen my wife in a t-shirt. 29 feels like 21 now so it’s black ice time again. There were some nasty accidents yesterday. 78 inside and it’ll be awhile before the coals are down enough to shovel some ash and reload with less wood than yesterday.
You must not keep it warm enough in the winter months then. That is one reason I keep our house so warm. Ladies have too many clothes on, throw another log on the fire.
Yesterday was awesome, temps in the mid 40's, breezy but it felt great! I spent a chunk of the day splitting sugar maple in the driveway, and pulling it to the back yard by flying saucer. By the end of the afternoon most of the snow on my track had melted, so I'll need the wagon today. There's still sugar maple to be had at the dump, whenever the loader pushes the pile, a couple more rounds pop out. I let the fire go out yesterday, and I think kitty was upset! Today will be cooler, so I'll stay on top of it.
Rough night here. Been up for several hours as could not sleep. Probably getting some bug as I don't often feel this way. Had the trots, headache (which sadly is normal for me) fever, can't sleep. Probably want to sleep later in the day now... Tis okay. My boss lets me do what I want.
Would have felt nice, where I crossed the river on Friday, a buddy went ice fishing. The auger is 4 feet, had to use a chainsaw to cut the top so he could finish the hole.
-1c/30f with a few flakes falling. Ill take the dog for a slog in the woods and then head off to work. The stove will sit cold until tonight which is fine.
Started with 25, their saying 37 today. I would say spring is here. The next 10 days is highs in 40's and low 50's. Staying dry with only a few days of rain.
Just came back inside. Was moving some wood to porch and got some wood from a neighbor's property. It is red oak that was cut when the tree trimmers went through cutting for the power company. Wasn't sure if I could dig it out of the snow and ice but just a little tap with the bucket of the tractor and it came loose. Then when I took the wood in back there were deer all over and they didn't really want to move. I was close enough to 3 of them that I could have easily shot them with a bow and arrow. For some reason they tolerate the tractor better than the atv. Maybe because it is slower; not sure. Ah spring! Flock of geese and sand hill cranes flew over this morning.
I think I'm fairly certain when I say, the cold weather/polar vortex crap has broke. It's currently 0 c or 32 f right now and was only about -6 c or 20 f overnight. If the forecast holds, we're seriously stuck in normal weather! It's been a trying winter with polar vortex and wind and furnace problems, but I can see the end. Even my fuzzy buddy is happy, sitting out on a snow bank chewing on a stick, watching the chickadees eat deer tallow scraps. Speaking of those poor devils, I've been rationing them tallow for a couple months now. I'm not sure if I'm crazy, but I think they associate the sound of me splitting wood in the shed with chow time. I could go sit on the steps for an hour and no birds, but after a few whacks with the axe, the chickadees start calling, and show up shortly. They're not even leery much anymore when I'm filling the bird feeder. They sit a couple feet away and jabber half the time. I had made a feeder, but the magpies figured how to tip it, so I only feed small amounts on a feeder they can't bump.
While during the day its in the mid 50°F (wind and rain), at night we had the creeping cold at 30°F... cows having a comfy bed anyhow. Spruce and oak keping the house warm.
