33F here with a stiff west wind. Sun's supposed to come out tomorrow & 37! It's slowly getting warmer, but I hate this time change. 2 1/2 hrs of dark in the A M is a drag this time of year. Oak & Pine mixed in the boiler.
35 and 76, still haven’t reloaded yet, but soon. 3-4” of slop outside waiting to be cleaned up and temperatures are warming up some finally!
34° here, the slop refroze overnight, but the sun will take care of that. I did the driveway yesterday, because I want to be splitting there today. I love this time of year, when everything wakes up! It's shoulder season, and I'll have to bring in some more red maple.
We used to take the car over on the ferry with my mom from Burlington to Port Kent and we would go to Ausible Chasm every year or two, and then up to Cornwall, Ontario. Mom's gone but the memories remain.
Canadian border VT , we also used to stop at the Shelburne Museum a lot too. It was back in the 70's, it's probably much different now.
Anyways, back to the thread......it was 32 here at dawn with Black ice everywhere. A lot of slipping and sliding. The stove had about 4" of blackish coals that roared to life with the door cracked opened after a good stir. Some fresh (seasoned) splits were added, and away we went. It's 42 here now, and no more fuel for now. Also, the Bobcat came through again around the perimeter of the stacks on the snowblown trails. Nice tracks in the snow.
Weather has been hanging around -14 c or 7 f with a dash of wind since yesterday evening. Sure is nice to do battle with this kind of winter weather after being hammered all season long with below normal temps and extra helpings of wind. Still a ton of snow everywhere so it's hard to get out and actually do much, but at least I can consider BBQing or grilling now!
Took atv in back to look at conditions. That little bit of rain and thaw we got only made things worse. Really slippery out there this morning and I spread a bunch of sand. Come on big time thaw!
You can think about grilling now without getting frost bite! Yesterday morning it was -18c/0f and this morning -6c/21f! The weather guessers say we are heading for a warm up, how big it will be we will have to wait and see. Doug fir in the box.
