Okay guys and gals, it's been a while since I posted. No, I didn't forget about all of ya. I'm still here behind the scenes every day, just so darned busy anymore. So my apologies for not keeping up with my "fair share" of pics and posts....here's one from up in a poplar tree the other afternoon, doing what I love to do! Alright, enough of the goofy pics of me, so where do we stand as far as wood usage this winter? Being it was a fairly active winter (in terms of temp and precipitation), at least here in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, amazingly we faired quite well on the wood usage. I have both of my stoves pretty much totally dialed-in and figured out, so I think I've optimized my wood usage this season (thus far). We only had to fire the Napoleon 1900p in the kitchen part-time (usually only when the temp dipped below 15°), and the Napoleon NZ3000 in the living room did the primary heating duties, staying fired since early November, for the most part. That being said, we heat with wood and wood alone, all winter, and we only used around 4.5 cord this entire winter so far. And that's heating a 2800sq ft house. I think that's pretty good! I'm burning 4 and 5-year seasoned oak, black beech, hard maple and a little bit of locust. And, as we've preached for many years here at FHC, seasoning that split wood for a minimum of 3 years (especially oak) is most certainly the way to get the maximum from your hard-earned wood stash! That's pretty impressive for a morning reload, not much smoke and what smoke is there clear out literally moments after the firebox gets warmed back up... So how have yinz others faired this past winter?
Hey Scotty Overkill Moved the last of the wood from the deck to the front porch yesterday, closing in on 3 cord for the winter, having started the stove in late October sometime. Temps are starting to become milder, and hopefully I may have a couple of sticks to rub together after the heating season. Have ~2.8 cord CSS for next winter, and a bunch of ash to clear from the hill, as well as a potential wood source thanks to Chazsbetterhalf Planning to hit it hard this year and hopefully put up 6-7 cord so I can "sneak up" on that 3 yr goal. Hope things find yinz well down there.
Pretty close to 2 cord so far (right on track for the "plan"), and also some nat. gas. I'll calculate that in a couple months, but everything seems to be on track for a total BTU use of about where we usually end up, and that's 5 cord. So, I'm sure you evaluate every tree, but I don't trust Poplar. They like to rot and break over heah, and not always in that order.

Surprisingly, I've burned less than 4 cords so far. gave a pickup load to a friend also out of the stack
It looks like we will end up burning quite a bit more this year. I think most of that is because of last fall having to burn so much. December was light as was early January but since mid-January we've burned a lot. I don't have a completely accurate count but right now I'm going to say we will end up burning 3 1/2-4 cord or possibly more, depending upon how the weather goes from here on out.
Same here Dennis. I'm glad I managed to get one more 1/3 cord of Ash in the shed last year. Most of it got resplit a bit smaller, so I'm now using that instead of blowing through the Oak that's still in there. Don't need the heavy hitter the rest of the winter. Just read the meters and our gas use was 84 ccf for the last 28 days. Just the water heater use is about 18, with the rest being mostly the shop furnace, and some for the house. We pay very close to 85 cents/ccf w/o the fees and stuff.
12ish cord since Sept. 26th. Boiler's been running steady & will till into mid April. Gonna need to process some dead stuff early to make sure I've got 15 cord dry for next winter. Been through a bit more this winter, but it's been colder outside & warmer in so no problem.
I’m into cord 4 now... I need to get into some of my lighter weight and smaller pieces of wood before too long. I know one thing... I have plenty of wood to fill up those open spaces now... just got to get work to lessen up a bit so I can process some wood....
I sold about 7-8 full cords.. But planned on being closed on the house sale by now... didn’t want to move it 200 miles.
About two cords, a bunch of uglies and two barrels of shop cut-offs. Our house is on the market and we are not re-stocking here. We will start fresh at the new place.
All of this(2 rows deep). Well except for one pallet left. Started burning early this year with a cold snap at the beginning of the season. I never really measure how much wood as far as cords go. Maybe I’ll calculate it later for grins. Here is what’s left...
Little bit past 2 cords for the year. SE Wisconsin Drolet 1800i, and 2000sq ft. The furnace handles two firings... Morning and after school to warm up the house. The rest is the stove.
