Here's a shot of my wall clock from when I got home from work this afternoon. I dont know how accurate it is but I will definitely be getting a humidifier for next year.

 

Was a nice day, brought a load of birch home after work. Also brought my Skandic, sled and big trailer home, it’s my weekend off this month and I have some really nice standing dead spruce to go get off the timber sale I brought from the state.

 

Marvin, a pot of water on the wood stove helps me from getting a humidifier.

 

I did this on the old stove. I have not done it on the new stove yet. My stove is in the basement so I wasnt sure how much of a difference it would really make. I guess every little bit helps...

 

Hey PA Dutch , welcome aboard.
I do the same, and just filled it for the night. It only keeps the humidity level about 25 or so in these temps.
What stove is that?

papadave, that's a Fisher insert in the picture. I can usually keep above 40% humidity in the living room and kitchen with the pot of water on the stove. For some reason tonight I'm only a little above 30%. I suspect (I know) I'm not running as hot as in the middle of winter, so as to "boil" off as much as I normally would. Thanks for the welcome.

 

You posted a pic right off the bat.......you'll fit right in. And it's a Fisher to boot.

Burning "not so seasoned" oak right now Temps are in the low to mid 20s in south central PA.

 

The beer is the correct temperature out of the pantry right now

 

Welcome PA Dutch , glad to meet ya. It's 10* here now and dropping. Sugar Maple in the stove for the night, Boxelder and Elm for the day tomorrow, and then back to Sugar Maple at night.

9 out, 75 inside still on coals and looking forward to the mid 30’s today! Woo hoo! Finally a little warmup with some sunshine today and tomorrow before the next sloppy mess arrives.

The weatherman was off a bit on the overnight temp. It is currently 5* here not the forecasted 16*
Supposed to warm up a bit today. We will see...

 

My humidifier goes thru 5-6 gallons of water in 24 hrs. when its this dry....thats to maintain 40% humidity

 

Good luck on getting a good humidifier. I’ve read reviews till I was blue in the face. This was our first year with a soap stone stove. It was easy to maintain 40% humidity. Stove room only got down to 25%. Two small humidifiers took care of our prob. Our old fisher mama bear would get moisture down to 5%
