Dropped this 27"dbh cottonwood. It was back leaning to a brand new leech field with its limb weight to it also. Owner wanted it down so the roots didnt jack the field up. The lean was only 15' at the crown, had wedges, and favourable wind. I put a line in just in case it needed pulled. The pic doesn't do it justice. Its zoom and I was 150' away.
The old 461 with 32" bar was great.

I forgot to add, a buddy came with his tractor and took all the wood out to be milled. I cut everything to 10'6" for him. In the over all picture the tree was sent to the left of the pic

ETA- tight grain for a cottonwood, it'l make nice lumber

What does he do with the wood? I have always heard the only use is for pallets and they are the crappy ones that always break.

Probably tables, shelves etc. Cottonwood is fine if its tight grained, which is rare due to the fast growth rate

And for sure you have to stack it right to keep it from getting some of those strange curves in the lumber. lol

I had to paint them lol. Blue is my favorite color and I see it much better than orange, being red/green color deficient. Also I may have caught my 311 will a truck tire because it was orange.

Best thing you could've done. Cottonwoods are notorious for root problems. If it's leech field, septic tank or sewer line they always cause problems.
