Tree that came down in last weeks wind storm was being worked on today. Only two guys working ont this big azz oak. They were more than happy to let me take whatever I wanted. Said they are going to chip the whole thing so whatever I took only meant less work for them. They just got the tree on the ground today and are supposed to come back next week sometime. As soon as the tree was down they were out of there. I started loading up the limb wood and ended up taking 2 loads of that home. I just couldn’t help staring at that big beautiful trunk, thinking of the splits I could get from that. So on my 3rd trip back I brought the 562. The house is a foreclosure and there is no one living there so I just kinda said “F it” and cut a round. It split around the edges pretty easily so I cut and split 2 more. Going to go back tomorrow grab the rest of the limb wood and see how many more rounds I can grab too. I have a feeling they’re gonna be a little surprised and maybe confused when they come back and see a lot of a 24” heavy oak trunk missing.

Those bottom two sections of the trunk are going to split like a dream. Get all you can.

Nice!! I would take a few more of those big rounds with each load also!

Splits easy, and lots of splits in each one. Good workout too.

Go for the trunk! Bring your sledge and wedges, cut a kerf on the top, and go to town! Or, the patented MikeInMa method, he wrote the book on splitting oak. IMG_20181212_084948578.jpg

Nice score, looks like Pin Oak. Those trunk sections should make for some nice splitting.

I'd noodle the rounds in half and concentrate on that first if you can lift them once they're halved. Leave the limbs for later if you have time.

I’ll definitely take some more rounds. I split as much off the edges as I could and at that point they were able to be lifted into the truck. Have to find my sledge, but actually I was able to get a lot split off with just my x27.

Don't worry about splitting those big rounds, take a plank with you and roll them up on the truck, I've done it many times. I actually use a plank the is set up as a ramp for loading mower or 4 wheeler.
