Heavy sugar maple with a little ash to round it out. She was a little drifty on the steering, but Black Betty brought it home. Only about a 5 mile journey. Had the wheelbarrow just in case but it ended up just along for the ride.
Nice. Black Betty to the rescue! Glad you didn't need the WB. That woulda got heavy in a 5 mile trip.
I've been a little crazy at times on how far I will wheelbarrow stuff out of the woods (not in the last few years). But 5 miles is past my limit
Never mind the mule...load the wagon! Pretty regular loads like that in my old '95 F150 were why I replaced her with a F250 Superduty...never had any problems while loaded like that, but I was expecting the rusty rear spring shackle mounts to let loose at any moment! I had the new ones already...but they were still new in the box when they went with the truck upon its sale
Dig it! Wet sugar maple is like lifting boulders, nice work. I hereby give you permission to take the rest of the evening off with your beverage of choice and a nice warm fire.
She has new rear spring brackets, I put the rear end out my 91 in this 89, made one good truck out of 2.
1989 with some parts off my 91 that went to the bone yard finally. I bought a 99 rust free out of Carolina back in August so Black Betty is just for tasks like this now.
Nice to se an old one working hard! Ive hauled a lot of loads over the years with my F150's (1986 bought from my brother in 1988, junked in 2001, 2001 bought new and junked 2017, bought a used 2008 in 2017) The last several months ive hauled maybe 20 loads that size, Been a banner year for wood for me. I had to laugh as yours is "black Betty". I named mine "Whitey" when i got her home! Trying to get wood pics posted soon, truck too!
Nice load! Youre not light on the tires until you have to tap the brakes to settle the front end down so you can turn.
Wait until the metal of the truck bed starts to stretch and you end up with a wavy floor...… Don't understand just why that has happened to all of the trucks I've ever owned!
I would bet the bed floor on this truck is wavy but she has a bed liner and she ain't mint green.....even if she was I'd loader and go.
Got it unloaded, this is the kind of load I like to bring home. It don't take long to fill the stacks back in. Notice anything different than yesterday's pictures? Here's a shot of where it will be going, almost have the big stack filled back in, this stack is about 17 cord when full.
The truck is MIA, there is no sugar maple AND there is snow on the ground??? Just started here in Southern Conn couple hours ago, mebbe 1/2" on the ground
