Cool damp May 2nd......Chill Chaser. We've had some mid 60's but today never got past 55º with a cold breeze. Mowed close to dark and just couldn't get warm. I am now. Funny thing is I looked at Bogy's weather for some reason this evening and I had to make sure he didn't get mixed up and load Georgia weather.
Pic 001 bears an uncanny resemblance to my avatar... She's rockin' right there; Meters look almost identical to what I had on the 91 last night. I've lit fires the last four nights but this might be about it; Forecast lows here are 50s and 60s as far as the eye can see...
About an hour after I took those pictures I looked again and the stove top was hanging at 600 and cat probe at 1700
I'm thinking of giving ours a little snack tonight. Supposed to be down in the mid 30's tonight. You better get working on that cupboard for this winter, it's only 5 or 6 months away.
Believe me, I'm already working on it.. Got 4 cords for next winter seasoning and 1.5 of red oak and white oak stacked and seasoning for 15-16... Not quite 3 years ahead yet.. My Red Oak that I cut a year ago was down to 23% so that went into the next year pile.. I would think it'll drop below 20% by the time the cold air blows!!!
Sounds like your on the way.....I would think that red oak should be good to go or close enough if needed.
Got some other standing dead around the yard. Going to try to get 2 more cords for this winter so I don't have to dig into the red oak... Spent this entire winter playing catch up... Feeling pretty good about next winter now.. Besides, next winter COULDN'T POSSIBLY be as cold as this winter!!!!
Good possibility, and that will probably do fine for you in the 81. The cats I run seem to prefer sub-18% wood for the quickest starts and light-offs. Didn't do as well on some wood I tried last winter that was closer to 20. That's been my strategy. I got in the woods a couple weeks ago when I could still find the dead little stuff that was lying around, and got maybe a couple cords lined up for my SILs to replenish their sheds with ready-to-burn wood. I've got several bigger dead or down Oaks that I can find anytime, but those will require some drying except for the smaller limbs.
