I quit about 17-18 years ago, cold turkey. I decided I had enough and quit. I did put on about 20 lbs. overnight but it is still better than smoking. Hang in there the first year (at least for me) is the hardest but it will get better.
Just take the patch off about an hour before bedtime and you'll be OK.. I smoked much longer than you, I guesstimate around 40 years around a pack a day for good part of it.. Ray
One thing I will add Ray......set up some mileposts of time as a non smoker and reward yourself with something you want large or small. Also try to get the mind set of only using the patch to get you over the hump and start thinking of yourself as a non smoker rather than a person trying to quit. edit: I guess that was a few more things
I quit back in November. Had a couple at the holidays and here lately I've had a couple packs. This will be it though. Only have 3 cigarettes left. I went several months without them. It wasn't too bad. Smoking all the time is bogus, but I do enjoy it. The ritual that is.
Maybe I'll look into quitting too. The wife wants me to, and maybe after 6 months ill buy that safe ive wanted.... lol
It's not so bad once you really want to do it. I went from December 23rd until the beginning of April without one. Once you stop, you don't think about it much....
It was cool not to smoke for several months. Boosts self esteem when you see you did something you thought was going to be really tough.
Ray, I'm a little late on this thread but, STAY AT IT MY FRIEND!!!! I'm not afraid to mention it but, I went through esoghagel cancer fight for 18 monthes last year and "Thank the good Lord above" I beat it! Trust me when I say, cigarettes are not worth it…. Now, I will not be a hipocrite, I need to say this… I loved my smokes, and would still be smoking today if I didn't come down with cancer. But it was easy, quit, or die…. I looked at my wife, Daughter, family, friends, and said is smoking really worth it, I must be nut's. I'm with you and if you need a crutch, friend or just need someone to chat with, PM me and we'll talk.! You are worth it to your family Ray!!!!
Wow Dave I can see why you quit! Like you I miss it and I have to fight off the urges and hearing stories like yours keeps me motivated! In the last couple months a couple people at work have died from smoking related cancer and both were under 60 yrs. old and one was 49! Thanks for the support and if you need to talk I will listen as well Glad you beat the cancer Dave you're a good guy! Ray
Saw my Dad die a slow torturous death from cancer related to years of smoking. I am blessed by being allergic to tobacco products. You hang in there. You can learn to live without that cigarette. Keep track of the money you are saving, then reward yourself every once and a while. Good reason to celebrate!
Just talked about it at work today Oslo and we figured out that i am 2 packs by noon and another 2 by bedtime The Indian smokes are just up the road a half hour and buying 20/30 cartons is part of the problem as i'm paying $10 per and not $90 from the Gov. Very chitty habbit but never tried to stop
