I had my first real breakdown yesterday on an '82 Kubota B7100 that I bought new. After fifteen minutes running near wide open on the buzz saw I noticed steam coming from the front. Yanking the throttle to idle and popping the hood showed a loose fan belt and the fan not turning. A quick nudge on the plastic blade and off she goes !! But off we go then to the hose and spray down the radiator for a quick cool down then a half-cup of anti-freeze went in. Good thing it was 23* F...which is the reason it took so long to overheat.

So it really wasn't a breakdown per se... I guess. But it DOES need a new belt, the good is gone from this one. Ok, ok it was a clickbait title. Old Kubota's never die, they just keep on tractorin'...

Keep an eye on it as overheating is also not good on the thermostat.

Wow their quality has really dropped! My 2005 had a breakdown, granted I picked up a stick with the back tire and ripped out the PTO shut off safety switch. I had to drive 8 miles to the store and get a new oem switch and wire it in 13 dollars and some change!

I actually have a complaint about my Kubota BX2360. The tie rod ends have lousy boots. Dealer replaced once just after delivery, they were already dry rotted. It very rarely sits out, and 7 years later they are rotted and weeping grease. I'll have to see what else I can pop on there. But seriously, that has been the biggest issue so far with the BX, and no issues from the RTV. Stuff just works, and I love it. And I am not gentle with either one.

You know...I been thinking... the quality of rubber has gone to hades in a handbasket. (Opinion, of course) I offer as evidence how quickly vehicle and trailer tires sidewalls dry rot and simple things like the cords on power tools literally crack like crazy. Now additional evidence....I have one tractor that still has one original rear tire from 1941. Yes, it has some crackage....but c'mon you think this new rubber is gonna last for 78 years ??!! Well, it would probably fail if the tractor was still asked to plow from sunup to sunset day after day but fortunately it, like me is out to pasture and not consistently worked too hard. And I have a few power tools from the 40's/50's with original cord as well....and though cracked do seem to keep the roving electrons on the inside of the wire.

I'm thinking your tie rod boots are suffering the same industrial 'predetermined failure' fate. And good for you in the tractor abuse department...that's what Kubota's are bred for: unbridled abuse. I subscribe to that theory as well !!

Like the shingles on your roof. Why are they failing so soon? EPA said they needed to breakdown sooner/easier as they consume to much space in a landfill, sooooooooo, they start breaking down as soon as they are on your roof! I assume the rubber products are probably under the same guise.

20-30 years on a shingle roof wasn't unheard of lucky to get 15 now

Just a little pre-apocalyptic fear-mongering to end the week and start the weekend.

My new Kubota B2650 and Well Seasoned ’s same tractor had a leaking o ring on the loader. I am some kind of happy with my tractor though! The New Holland T1520 I have has been bulletproof sine new.

My new BX2680 and the commercial snow blower have had 4 recalls and my dealer could not have been any quicker to make things right. I am 110% happy so far. My buddy just bought the identical set up to mine this week from the same dealer. Awesome service for sure.

A hose wasn't tightened all the way and the dealer came out that night right after a snowstorm and fixed it, topped off the hydro fluid and left me a new 5gal pail (pricey stuff) I tightened it, but they still came out. The dealer should take care of it asap imo.

They came out the same day I called, I wish I’d gotten the hydraulic fluid too!
