The power went out at 1015EST here in Southern Ct, after digging for candles and flashlights, me and the GF took a ride to see the affected area. Got back close to 11 and it was back on. We only had a couple wind gusts that i could hear from in the house. Didnt see any trees, limbs, or poles down etc, but saw how big our grid is.
    Stay tuned!

Ours was out from 3 am until noon. Thanks to the wood stove I never lost a degree indoors. My neighbor(no wood stove in his house) didn't fair as well. His place was down to 51F when the power came back on. My yard/cars are covered with small limbs from our grove. Up to 50 mph gusts and sustained 30+ left a mess.

We had gusts over 50 mph yesterday. Settled down now. Stay warm and stay safe.

Lost power yesterday for a couple hours but it’s been fine since. It’s pretty intense up this way. Been off and on snow showers all morning. I was emptying my sap tanks this morning to get the sap in my thaw tank in preparation for the upcoming freeze and a gust of wind made it a white-out for a few seconds. Pretty awesome. Crank up those wood stoves. Keep warm.

Thanks, will do. Ill keep everyone posted
I saw the radar this AM and saw squalls going thru the northern part of state. You folks in Litchfield county seem to get the worst of the storms be it snow or thunder.
The sap has been flowing since January. Felled a small sugar maple in my processing area in January and the sap has flowed since. Theres a grove of sugar maples in my woods and ive though of tapping them. Time, money and the work involved stop me.

It’s a different weather story up here for sure. Mostly because of elevation. Most of the state is below 400 feet I believe. My house sits at 1195 feet and it keeps going up and up as you go west. Friend of mine who lives over in Bloomfield tapped three maples in his yard this year. He’s had almost a nonstop sap flow since. Can’t keep up. Up here, complete 180 from that. Have had a couple great flows now but mostly its been too cold. He’ll see 40 degrees during the day down there and it’ll be 30 here. Always seems to be a 10 degree or more difference from the hills to the rest of the state no matter the time of year.

I'm a few dozen miles north of you in eastern berkshire county - similar elevation. Always found it fascinating that I could drive 40 miles east over the hill into the CT River valley and pick up 10-20 degrees!

My ex wifes late grandparents lived in Cheshire. They had this cute chalet style house with a old lodging cabin outbuilding for guests when we would visit. Nice wooded lot that was on the edge of an open field with a beautiful view on the mountains to the East. Great spot. Beautiful country along Rt 7.

Told the wife we were gonna get on this summer. The only problem with them is that once you have them the power won't go out!
Ours just came on, we were out for about 30 hours. I am getting to old to worry about keeping a portable running 24 hours a day.:D

Not to sound too pessimistic here, but beware the fuel usage of the big LP Genny's. I though I wanted one till I found out that a 20KW unit could empty a 500 gal tank in three to four days. My 10,000 watt welder/gen will run everything but the air compressor & burns about .8 to 1 gal of gas per hr. Good enough for me.

There's actually a couple setups out there. They build a wood gasifier, generator, off grid power setup. Really pricey though.

I taped the infomercial on "Never Fear Power Outages Again". Didn't watch the whole thing but enough to get the discount number and contact information. My parents had one on NG at the house we all grew up in. Not wanting a whole house generator. Want the pump, OWB pumps, furnace blower, couple of outlets for refrigerator, freezer and tv. I do have my priorities!

And thanks on the caution of their fuel usage. Just learning and appreciate knowing a concern. I am quite confident my lack of funds will eliminate the large generator from the equation!

It is a very nice ride, for sure. Lots of great scenery to be had around here! Privacy too, if you want it - as much as a guy can get in MA anyway. My wife comes from North county (North Adams/Clarksburg) and some of the views up that way are just killer. You can see five states from the top of Mt Greylock!

On one of our visits up there i recall going up Greylock, there is an auto road going up? I bought my Pacific Energy insert from Adams stove in North Adams in 2001. He was set up at the big E that Fall.
