Wishing it was not Sunday night...have to wait until 5:00 tomorrow to get after it. Fortunately the sun is staying out longer these days!

And, i'm sitting here wringing my hands together, waiting for a nice maple to rip in half across the street in the empty, unfinished duplex. My 044 is ready to go, and i've got plenty of gas. Hay, I would just be doing a favor for who ever owns it and the city as well. It would look bad with a busted up maple in the front yard of that place. Besides in the summer i keep the yard mowed and weed's killed down. So i kind of think it would be an even up trade, if i cleaned up the mess for them . if it ever goes down.

Yes sir. I always check the weather and plan accordingly. Wait for a dry spell or deep freeze before driving on peoples lawns. Let em know that’s how your planning. They really appreciate the little extra thought on their behalf.
Just looked at a tree yesterday. Homeowner said he could help today which is a nice offer. I said no. We’re right between a thaw and some snow. I’ll come Tuesday after the ground freezes up and before the snow falls. No ruts ;)

Just remember, most NORMAL people don't particularly love hoarding firewood and all the hard work that goes along with it. That being said, usually people like your neighbor are probably thrilled when someone offers to get rid of the bulk of it for free, not to mention putting it to good use.

Of course there's the jerks that will try to capitalize on YOUR work by trying to charge you for the wood, but more often than not it's the opposite for me.

I’m just going to work on getting the rounds cut tonight. Once i get all the rounds cut and the brush piled, I will begin splitting it on site. Then once it’s all split I’ll swing by on my Wright Stander with my poly trailer and load up the split wood and drive it back to my pile!!

This type of situation speaks loudly to me and says yes, to go right over and introduce yourself, or like this time, you've met once, so then it is a great opener to ask if he would like some help in cleaning up that mess! What an opportunity to both make a friend and help him at the same time while getting some firewood in return. 3 big winners here!!!

As for what type of wood that is, I'd bet a lot that it is elm but don't let that scare you. It is great firewood.

If I haven't already, please allow me to welcome you to the forum Sean. Also, being new to this you might appreciate some good reading here: Primer on Woodburning by Backwoods Savage You can read it online or download it. Hope this helps.

I am jonesing bad, as well. Woke up t0 -22 F have over a 36" now pack and cutout trails through the drifts. I can't believe how much I miss going out for a splitting session! It would do my mind so much good to just go splitting.

Welcome to FHC Sean Easterly Looking at the pic's I'd say that it is Elm. Picture #6 looks like a Widow maker be careful of that one, try to pull it down with a rope if possible.
    Nice hoard.

    Glad your introduction worked well.
I’ve done this several times with immediate neighbors which leads to word of mouth if you treat the property correctly.
