While I haven't pulled the generator out of the hanger yet, the cable is ready and tractor fueled. It will take 5 mins to get it going if need be. I attribute digging the thing out and having it ready to having not lost power yet. Ironically, if I do need to put it into service, I'll run electric heat since the tractor burns about a gallon an hour no matter how much load it is pulling.
Good to hear. Still waiting to get hit. It’s just north of breezy here. Another hour or two it should kick in high gear.
Here is an explanation of pure sine wave vs modified sine wave. you are right about generators with modified sine wave being destructive to electronics. modified sine wave is often referred to as dirty electricity. Pure Sine Wave vs. Modified Sine Wave Inverters- What's the Difference?
Thanks. I remember when we got our first computer reading the manual about using a generator with the 'puter. I'll have to check my new generac generator and see what it says about electronics.
Line men can't work on poles if the wind is over 40 mph. I would assume that includes gust, but not really sure.
I'm pretty they were being staged to move in behind the storm. There must be certain things they can do, maybe with hot sticks, to power up again. There were a couple friends around here that were only out an hour or two during the height of the storm yesterday.
Looks like it is starting to slow down a bit. At least i can see across the valley. Still snowing, not sure how much with the the wind still blowing. Never lost power. Hearing up north they seem to have quite a few outages. NPR was saying that 900 extra utility worker to handle the issues. Just heard 47,000 people without electricity in western NY.
We have a generac and the computer does just fine with it. But then, it did on our old generator too.
Amazing how little problems with power outages in MI. Especially considering how often we usually get knocked out. This time our generator never turned on. Good!
I was able to keep the garbage and recycling containers at bay at the end of the driveway. There were no stray flying pieces of trash because I took chunks of ice and put them in the lids of the cans to keep the trash in place. The wind died down a bit, but with a temperature of 0 overnight, even a 15 mph wind makes it very cold with wind chill.
Been blowing and snowing all night. Comes and goes. Hard to tell exactly how much snow we've gotten with the wind moving it around, but might be about 3-4". Not bad. Went out with the dogs before bed and the hinged poly cover on the trash container had blown open. Obviously, we had some pretty hefty winds yesterday.
Pretty bad here in Rochester starting around 3pm yesterday. I think gusts peaked last night at about 60. Our windstorm of 2017 saw some devastating damage with gusts at 75+. I was looking forward to seeing trees blown over on my way to work, but only saw one! Our town didn't even lose power. There's always one good thing that comes from these seemingly increasing wind storms - more wood hoarding
Too much snow for me to go tromping around in the woods, but I'd bet there's SOMETHING out there for me to cut up into firewood. Nothing near the house that I can see.
Just took the 10 mile trip to the beer store and all I saw was a half blowed over cedar tree and a big dead maple limb in one yard. Wind is Stihl whipping but has slacked off a bit. Back to the splitter .
Wild outside. Wind blowing in huge gust. I had to stop at the top of the hill on my street and wait for between gust to get back home. Trees were bending like I seldom have seen. Some small dead limbs falling off. Nothing larger than my wrist. Glad I have a lot of the tress away from my house. Saw a gust of snow coming at us like a sandstrom. Temp is 31F but if I had to take a guess, I would have said 10F Stove is keeping us toasty warm.
10 miles to get beer? About all the stores around here sell it. closest is a little over a mile. Stock up!
