Hi.Same seller, over 2 hours drive from me.The P61 is early model, looks OK.has extended hopper. To be usable, needs self ignition upgrade,800 bucks,2-3 hours of work. The accentra is an accentra 2,but very early,4 digit serial number.he did not post/picture the year.I have a Accentra,5 digit serial number, and it has the old Harman feeder unit, center stud/wingnut,on the fines box, have to remove the auger motor to clean the fines box.Was there anything else different about the older units? His prices right now are 1100 for p61,1400 for Accentra. With the necessary upgrade's,(full auto ignition, air tube bypass, possible burn pot on accentra, auger motor update),I was thinking of offering him 1800 for both stoves(again).Am I low on the offer?I did this before,he refused to return my email/messages.I think there are people out there that think just because it says Harman, it is worth so much more, lol.Give me some input, before I decide on these,to help my sister. Thanks,Bob
Brief synopsis.....$1800 is probably fair, cash value for both of the units together, possibly slightly high.....Id show up with $1500 in one pocket and $300 in the other, if you get my strategy there. I don't agree that the P61 needs the ignition upgrade though. I run my P61 as original. it doesn't autoignite, runs well, and is all of my heat. Would autoignition be nice? I dunno.....one more thing to fail on one of those cold nights.....my 61 shrugs it off. I did recently put a hopper extension on.....its ok if you're gone a long time, thats about it. It makes the stove likely to tall for the fairer sex to easily fill, but maybe she can with a grain scoop, etc. The older P61's were all pretty much the same. Accentras have been through a few Genesis situations, the largest two probably being getting away from the chain drive and the UL feeder assembly.....also there's the passthru mod. Theres nothing wrong with the old chain drives, but the hardened chain wears out the sprockets, and they aren't cheap. if you have the older, small sprocket with hub and have to replace it, its no longer available, so you have to replace it with the larger sprocket, at the same time, you'll need the 60 pin chain rather than the 57 pin chain. Also watch the motor bracket on the chain drives, they had a tendency to bend, which throws the chain out of alignment, making it more noisy and causing extra wear on the sprocket. Thats my take.....go get 'em, Bob!
Bob, you said that the older Accentra's with the center bolt on the fines box needed the auger motor removed to clean the box? I have the one wingnut in the center of mine and it came right out with a little wiggling. (Boy was it PACKED!) To me, your offer sounds reasonable. Good luck!
nah.....you can get the plate off without removing the feed motor, but it requires a bit of finagling to do so.....if you have large hands, even more difficult!
I agree on the above post, fine plate can be removed somewhat easily. Replacing my wing nut was my pet peeve so I Mcgiver a extension on the inside tread to align it better to start screwing it back on. I weld tacked a bigger nut! Lub the chain as it gets stiff with time. Offer is fair but you're dealing with a stubborn seller so Good Luck
Hello I would pass on the Accentra because of all the updates and cleaning is extra work. I would scoop up the P61 but that of course is one of my very favorite stoves. I do kinda disagree on the Igniter upgrade, and would definitely do it. That is mainly because the customer base around here wants auto light. Also it saves pellets by shutting down on warm spring days long before I would have a chance to get to it! LOL One of my assistants picked up a working P61 around here and since the old circuit boards are usually in tough shape, she is doing the ignition upgrade herself. I also found the circuit boards usually have to be replaced sooner or later on the older Harmans and I have done that to all 3 of mine, The good news is that the new circuit boards have the vacuum error 2 blinks now and even better the older stoves Do Not have the new Harman Hopper Muffler also called the vacuum sensor. I worked on a P52i Insert where the auger was not feeding and it turned out to be a pellet stuck under the left hinge and that CB did not have the 2 blinks! Just took a while to diagnose! LOL Although that hopper muffler may have made the board throw the Error in the first place but that’s progress.
Thanks for the great reply's.As far as the ignition upgrade on the p61,that stove would go to my sisters house,to replace a St Croix, that eats igniters, and she could start it with a thermostat, would not have to wait for husband to come home and manually start. The Accentra would go into the addition going on their house,so I would fully service and upgrade it.They would be in heaven, after the old St Croix. As far as the early center stud fines cleanout.on my stove, when i refurbished it,I left out the rubber bushings/mounts,on the auger(has worked awesome,no noise, clunk),but did not put in the expensive bracket. There is no flex to motor, since I mounted it direct,by adding washers.I think I actually got the cover off 1 time, without loosening motor/chain,but found out was faster to drop them, drop cover off, vac, and easier to remove slide plate and spray with hi temp moly.Anyway, thanks, you guys/gals gave me good info, will probably pro port an offer to the guy next weekend.Oh,don't you stove technicians remove the slide plate and lube?It is a high wear item.It wears out,as does the feeder unit.
I remove the slide plate and wire wheel it clean. Sometimes there is a little pitch on the plate from poor pellets. It does not need lube but I like to spray dry moly on it. Just makes it nice and smooth.
I lube my slide plate with dry moly. You probably could never convince me this could do any damage. It is 2 pieces of metal sliding along, with weight on top of the plate.
