HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM SUNDAY TO 10 AM EST MONDAY... * LOCATIONS...Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Jefferson, Erie, Genesee, and Chautauqua counties. * TIMING...From early Sunday morning through early Monday morning. * WINDS...West 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 75 mph. * IMPACTS...Strong wind gusts will bring down numerous trees and power lines and result in widespread power outages. Power may be out for several days in some areas. Shallow rooted pines will be particularly vulnerable. Property damage is also possible, especially to roofs and siding. Buildings under construction and old deteriorating buildings may be damaged significantly. Travel in high profile vehicles will be very difficult at times, and empty tractor trailers may be in danger of being blown off the road. Already got a message into the Highway Superintendent in the case any tree's in my area get blown over to drop them off on my front lawn.
sounds like Monday and Tuesday at your pleace would be a great GTG for FHC members...every bring their saws!
Went out and got an extra 5 gallons of gas for the generator and made sure my oil lamps were ready to go...Just in case. Guys for the Power Company's can't go up in the buckets if the winds are over 40mph in NY State. If we lose power Sunday..may not be back on til Tues or later..
Callin for 50-60 mph gust here.....hate hearin about shallow root pines...got 3 on the windward side of garage.....ALWAYS SOMETHIN..
Yep, same forecast here. 40gals of fuel for genny, & everything nailed down. Supposed to be followed by snow & cold here. Gonna be a crap ton of trees to cut up next week I'd think.
Most anything that might blow away is either buried in snow, or covered in a snow/ice combo. The trees are no longer covered in snow, so they might have a better chance of not losing limbs or tops. I won't know until a lot of the snow melts off......I'm not slogging through a bunch of snow to find out which trees in the woods broke. We'll probably lose power with those kinds of winds.
First Energy customers can report outages here if needed. Current Outages Gas for genny, flashlights charged as are all eneloop batteries. Propane for food preparation is being filled today. I am going to make sure all chains are sharp and saws are cleaned, fueled and ready. Not much else can be done.
We must be pretty close Nordic Splitter that’s the same forescast as I’m seeing. I sail so I’m always watching the wind forecasts even in the winter. Doesn’t look like 70mph is out of the question. No genny at our house(except for the beer). Father in law has a NG generator at his house here and he’s in Florida so we could head there if need be. I’m hoping to snag a little wood out of this deal too, just hopefully none that has fallen on my house.
Have plenty of gas for the generator, planned on exchanging propane tank for the gas grill today anyway. Have 2 bags of charcoal for smoker-grill. Wood stove choochin along. Freezer full of food. Plenty of water on hand, and well pump will be powered by generator as well. Think we're all set. Hold onto your hats folks, Stay safe.
Not much happening in Ashtabula county in NE Ohio yet (7:00pm'ish). Little bit of rain, light wind at the moment. Looks like it's spinning up out in Iowa.
Supposed to start ramping up here about 7:00 AM. Blizzard warnings just North of me about 75 miles. More rain here than snow till mid morning tomorrow they say. Saws & Genny ready. Hoping not to have to do downed tree removal till the winds die down. That is no fun in heavy wind & snow, can get dangerous.
My brother is in Grand Island, NE parked. I-80 is shut down east of there. He delivered a locomotive engine in Alliance, NE this morning and is heading to KC, MO. He said it's a mess out that way.
Hope he stays safe. Lived there from 81 till I moved to Omaha in 2000. Currently 20 MPH winds, gusting. Big drifts in the driveway and have not ventured out yet. Will be blowing snow through the night. At least tomorrow is Sunday, not a work day other than cleanup.
