Today I did my first ever cleaning of my flue by myself. I had it done professionally about 18 months ago and there was maybe a tablespoon of flyash. However, this year I've had to burn some less than perfectly dry wood due to the crazy wet year we've had, so I did want to make I was safe. Following recommendations on this forum, I used Gardus Sooteater system. I'm not sure what came down, since I had the shopvac inside the firebox, but it couldn't have been much. While I was doing all of this, my door gasket came loose. So, I had to run quickly to the fireplace store before it closed to pick up a new gasket and cement. Here some pictures. I'm not super pleased with the rust on the top of the baffle. There was a leak from the original installation in but that was taken care of when the chimney sweep was here 18 mo ago. I'll have to wait for some better weather to up on the roof to inspect the upper section of the stack anyways.
Cleaned the flue today. Was a bit worse than I thought it might be, but I also had some sizzlers. Been noticing some sluggish fires. Also cleaned the burn tube holes.....they were ever so slightly clogged. The baffles are getting a little "mushy", and a couple corners got clipped a little, so I'll probably replace before next burn season. No pics of any of this, so you'll just need to trust me this time. Got some colder weather on the way, so I thought I'd take advantage of the warmer temps today to get this done.
Hahahaha that was not me but that’s pretty funny. We do raise pork, chicken, beef and lamb for meat so kind of like eating your pets. It would have to a pretty big emergency to eat the dog

Figured it was going to rain, or maybe snow today, so i cleaned my chimney yesterday. The cap was a little sooty, and only about 2 ft of the very last pipe was dirty, not too bad considering. So, i knocked out the soot on the cap, and gave the pipe a really good brushing, perfect timing, it's been raining here most of the day, right now, feels like it could snow this evening, or in the morning.
But Dave, we just learned the other day from a guy who swears you never have to do that with a tube stove...
Musta' not happened then, eh? Sorry, but I live in Realityville, where real stuff happens. There was also a very fine layer of almost white ash on top of the baffles. Slightly crunchy stuff at the cap, which is normal for the types of burns I've had lately. I'd guess I got a cup and a half out of the whole thing.
