Since Atlanta is the Elk Capitol, we keep our eyes peeled for them, but I've only seen a couple bulls along tree lines at the edge of a couple fields. Well, today was different. Wife and I tool a little jaunt to Lewiston for a bit, and on the way came upon this small herd crossing M-32. There were 3 more up in the tree line waiting their turn as we passed. We counted 10 including the last 3.
Saw one on 33 north of town on Sunday. A single cow, just off the road and browsing. First I've seen on a main highway. During the brief trip, we saw turkeys, eagles, and that elk, but not a single deer.
On your way to Onaway? Evidently, there's a good area to see them up off of Kellyville rd., and also up off of 622....I think. Dennis also sent me a map of an area out near Vienna where they are. Big brick farmhouse on a slight hill going toward Gaylord just before Manier, I've seen lots of tracks, but never an Elk. Speaking of Dennis, anybody heard from him recently?
Thats cool, not something you see out my way. It's interesting to see what wildlife other parts of the country has to offer.
On the way home Sunday afternoon. We saw a few in a clearcut off 622 last fall. Haven't heard from Dennis since I, quite unintentionally, pizzed him off a couple of months ago
I saw an elk last fall on 68 between Onaway and Rogers City. It took me a second to figure out what the heck it was. Last time I'd seen one was in Yellowstone in 2008.
