I always look forward to stacking splits when it's raining. I love the sound on the metal roof while I work. I try to dump bucket loads in the shed, when I can, before a rain. 1-1/2 hrs this morning… Nice and cool too, maybe 50. Good see the 2nd bay start to get filled…
The rain is down our way now too, I decided to stay in I like the texture difference on your back row, cool look to it.
Maybe 2015-2016 season. This bay will have wood off the stump in the spring of 2013. Stored as logs. The 1st bay was supposed to be for last year, but I couldn't burn much of it. It came off the stump in the fall of 2012, and was CSS in August last fall, after being stacked as logs. Hoping it'll get some decent drying this summer. If so, it'll be next season's… and the stack of logs out back, that I pulled out this spring, is supposed to be 2016-2017. That pile will have the best chance to dry for all 3 years, CSS. No more storing logs for any longer than possible anymore. Not much if any drying happens as logs. The bark just falls off and the bugs move in.
Ding, ding, ding. Took me a couple years to get my last log load processed (20 cord), and the wood was still very wet when I finished the last of it. The stuff I'm processing now won't be needed until '16-'17, so it'll have 3 summers to dry. Better be gooder enough.
You got a lot done! The stack looks good too. Do you have a few different types in that stack? Sure does look wet, just like here too.
Getting there with the wood. Yup, had a good rain. Woods really needed it. Things are starting to green up. Have 3 woods. 1st bay is half rock maple half oak. Stuff I'm CSS now is mostly ash, then oak with a few small maples… same with the stack of logs out back hauled this spring.
I think that's a great mix of wood. Lots of excellent choices to choose from when loading the stove. Always good to have a little oak too. I know my limit to cut, haul, split and stack is about a half a cord/day these days... If I do more, I pay for it.
Agreed. I've been spending a max of about 1.5 hours in the woods each trip and if I don't stop, I'll be in deep doo-do0 later. If I stop in that time, the doo-doo isn't quite so deep.
I'm gonna get into splitting tomorrow now that I have that first pile stacked. I'm gonna go at my usual lightning speed and see how I'm doing after a couple hours. Ought to have at least a few rounds split…
Two hours of splitting, 1.5 hours stacking and 1 hour taking photos, 1 hour uploading and fixing them, 1 hour to read alerts, 1 hour to post pics, 1 hour to drink beer and take advil, 15 minutes to pet the pooch and wonder why you ever got a white dog, 2 hours to respond to thread responses. Full days work in my book!
