I've been keeping an eye on this long dead 16' cherry. No limbs, spotty bark and shook like Jell-O when pushed. I assumed that it was rotten all the way through as the outside was like a sponge. So with no work today and no sap to boil, what better way to celebrate Presidents day than cutting down a cherry tree just like George. With the exception of the outer half inch or so, it turned out to be solid all the way through.
And just like President Washington did when he was young, you didn't lie about it. I wonder, if cameras had been invented back then if George would have taken a picture of the fallen cherry tree and his axe beside it?
Will you burn that this season? Its always a nice surprise when it has some good meat left on a dead one.
You've got to be kidding me! You're not gonna believe this, but I have both of those same lithographs pictures hanging in my garage. Wow, what are the odds???
not sure if i handed him the 023 or 250. That's my dad. been doing the Abe thing for years. parades ,and other events. Seriously he did split over 2,000 locust rails from trees on our farm for gettysburg battlefield with a sledge and wedges. He taught me how and i have done about 500. Cutting firewood is easy compared to splittin rails.
Such a satisfying feeling when you hand split. Cherry is sweet splitting wood. Believe I may have a similiar maul. I tried several different brands/makes/models over the years. Kind of settled on the Fiskers x27. Your pic is motivating
