Beautiful day in the woodlot. Hauled out the small stuff I cut yesterday and then cleaned up some limbs and tops. Not very productive, but still a bit of exercise and nice to be outside with no rain. The little 360 with a decent chain does well with this stuff. [IMG][IMG]

I can tell it's usually wet there with all the moss on the trees.
    Nice looking wagon.

Hey! I've got one of those green things for holding limb size wood, and slightly larger. They work great too. I don't use it any more. I plan to donate it as a door prize at the next GTG I'm able to attend.

Yeah its great when the weather cooperates. Weve had very little snow here in Southern Conn and its been a banner Winter for me cutting that is. Cold, sunny and dry...perfect IMO.

Same here in southern NH. The lack of snow has gotten me outside a lot. Every scrounge I think will be the last one before serious snow, but no, they keep coming. At last we have enough snow and ice to keep me from splitting. Not a fan of swinging an axe while standing on ice.

I did go out last Tuesday (our first "normal" Winter snow) and chop in the snow. Ill throw a tarp over my rounds and will split later. It all depends on what my task is for that day/time...hauling, cutting, splitting, or stacking! Ive been doing so much that if i go a day or two and dont touch a log i start having withdrawals!
Do you have a large piece of land to get wood?

Nope, I scrounge most of my wood from the town dump, a little from Craigslist. I'm retired, so I can jump on an opportunity. I'm on a third of an acre house lot, so I need to be creative about storage.
I know what you mean about splitting withdrawal.

Glad to hear that you have had a good cutting winter. In se Wisconsin for me at least not so, either to cold and windy or warm and rainy. Just got a load of snow yesterday and forecast says rain this weekend.

Most of my acquisitions are from roadkill. Ive started Craigs list in Dec. Had an add looking for wood...minimal success. I dont like to travel more than 15 minutes for wood. Ive found a couple as well. Been a banner year for raodkill.
Few years ago Asplundh tree service had a fleet of trucks cutting wood all over the place in my area. I couldnt get any wood to save my life, even as i jumped on it. Tree service wasnt taking it and every homeowner i asked was keeping it. The wood gods were against me i guess!
Wow 1/3 acre in NH!!! My landlord gace me an area in his yard next door as a processing area and this season its exploded with wood.

I look forward to the first cold snap in Dec (overnight in the teens, day time 20's here) when the ground freezes solid. Was working on some rounds yesterday in a guys yard and the surface of the ground had thawed enough to make it muddy. I was using the falling off bark to put over the mud. Hope the ground freezes up again as i have to drive over the guys yard to get it out. Luckily my processing area is in the woods so leaves cover the mud as well as sawdust, wood crumbs, bark, wood shards etc!

Asplundh around here tends to chip everything. However I got lucky this month, they cut a bunch of oak and pine at the entrance to the town dump, and left it. I've been bringing it home.... IMG_20190208_7605.jpg IMG_20190217_21540.jpg IMG_20190217_131651370_HDR.jpg I do really well at the dump, during the warmer months, not so much in winter, unless there's an ice storm.

Most Craigslist offers are too far away, down in MA. Not too many freebies in NH. But sometimes I get lucky...

I could never support my wood habit on Craigslist alone, though.

Nice looking wood. I like the green and clean fresh cut stuff. Ive got some from the local landfill. Its privately run, you can dump leaves and brush, logs etc. Ive hauled brush there to dump and will pick through the pile for decent hardwood. Its free to dump unless a commercial hauler. The guy never checks when leave so theres usually a few logs. I had to get a load of topsoil for my stepdaughter there in August. Hes filling my PU and a landscaper dumps a batch of nice ash. I think my heart stopped so the guy tells me "come back before 3 when i close and take it. I think thats the fastest load of dirt i ever unloaded! LOL!!! I guess i got maybe two 8' truckfulls last year. It shuts down til mid March. We had tornadoes here in May and there was all types of wood being dumped. I didnt have the time to go back. Planning on making friends with the guy that runs it!!!

The dump can be easy pickings, for sure, just have to be there at the right time. Ours has a busy front end loader that's always compacting the pile and making stuff inaccessible.

same at mine. Sometimes there is two guys, one always at the pile. Ill drive around to the back side as it accessible all the way around. I passed up some nice wood after the tornado. I do some chain saw/brush removal work and dump there on occasion. But you are right, timing is everything. Lately it seems every time i turn around, theres more wood to be had.

Lucky! All we have are Christmas trees. Hate to wish for mayhem and destruction, but ice and wind certainly fill up the dump
