I used to love the winter when I was younger. I've owned several snowmobiles and skied occasionally cross country. I guess the big change came when we bought this place in '89 and then the kids came. Our driveway is over 100' long and I have to clear out quite a bit for parking for three vehicles and visitors. When we first moved in this was all done with a walk behind snowblower. That was probably the turning point from "winter good to winter bad". I'm not very big or heavy either so the cold gets to me faster than most people. I also used to stay a lot warmer when I was drinking too...LOL. Gave that up in 2000. I'm handling this winter okay. I'm not going crazy or anything. I just feel the weather is cheating me out of the good things in life. If I was ever to win a lottery I can promise I would only see snow on tv. But I would definitely be up here in the spring through the fall. I don't want the humidity of the Deep South either.
I hope you win the lottery, it would be nice to that know that someone I know won it, and deserves to win.
I hear you and am starting to feel a little bit the same way. I have a quarter mile drive way and would be lost without the front mount snowblower on the JD. We average 130 inches of snow here, a lot of times it's lake effect and it piles up. I'd like to move a bit south for better weather, longer growing season, less taxes and less gun laws. The thing is what little family I have is here, I have an awesome group of friends, my place is paid for and I love my land (2nd generation too), I know where to buy a battery and a water pump from good guys, and I got a good job and building a pension up for retirement. I am on my own and no partner to do an out of state move with, then again, that is a plus in some ways. Yeah, for me the winters are less fun than they used to be. I would like it a whole lot more if I got snow days. Spring isn't too far off, but I know we have had some heavy snow falls in March, at least it melts quickly. Not ready to sell and move...yet???
Good on ya Chris F ! I quit in 2005, problem is I used to be pretty trim, now, not so much. Cold doesn't bother me too much anymore for some reason.
If I had a choice between being buried in snow for months and dealing with 100° heat, humidity and insects for a week, I'd take the snow every time.
Love/hate relationship with winter here.. When stuff works and I don't have to travel big miles, I love it. When the plow won't raise (or previously, the blower throws a belt, shovel handle breaks, etc) and I'm fixing it while only halfway done moving snow... Or I have to drive 162 miles to visit a site for work.. I hate it.
