Welcome buZZsaw BRAD . If I would not have found this site I would have given up on the stove I have. My stepdad never seasoned wood so I figured I didn't have to either. Wow was he ever wrong.

Hi Thor, thats hard to believe he never seasoned wood. My late dad had a fireplace in the basement that had what he called a heatilator, basically a thick steel plate forming the firebox rather than firebricks. He would mix green wood in with the seasoned claiming it threw more heat. I think back and this was an ordinary open fireplace and the wood he wasted. Thus was back in the 1970-80's. It would warm up the first floor as the heatilator was attacked to the duct work. Problem was years later the steel cracked and it would smoke. He would patch it daily with furnace cement. We would have to carry arm fulls of wood down into the cellar to stock up on wood. We later got him an insert for the upstairs fireplace. I would sleep in the fireplace room when i would stay over on weekends...Ahhh the memories!

Well i am a wood hoarder (i sell it) Believe it or not i dont have a fireplace or stove in the house we rent much to my dismay! Its a quarter of a mile off the road, secluded, wooded (woo-hoo) and next to a small river. Very serene! I was a lifelong burner up to that point. Love cutting wood...my chainsaw is my set of golf clubs i tell everyone!

Hi Mike, thanks for the WARM welcome! Sorry i love puns! I go through your neck of the woods (sorry, another pun) on occasion and was wondering if the Ash borer beetle has hit up your way? The rate we're going down here they will be going the way of the chestnut. Dying all over, sadly! Great for us hoarders though.
Also, have the gypsy moth caterpillars affected your area at all? I have a friend in the quiet corner of Conn. (a fellow hoarder) I was over his place June 2016 and lots of his trees (oaks from what i remember) were being stripped bare. On my way home from his place i noticed lots of bare trees along I-395 as well. My stepdaughter lives in central RI and she was hit pretty bad too. Around here I cut some white oak last Fall that was killed by them as well.

thanks for the warm welcome. Dont have a dog, cat is indoor. My late cat use to love to hang out with me when i was out working on wood. He would sit atop the mound of split logs. A couple times a mouse scurried out and he would hunt it. He loved the fire from my insert. Would lay o his back on the hardwood floor in seventh heaven!!!

Good score Joe! Ive found Craigs List this year for selling and finding. What species is the wood? Im going to look at some from CL this morning. We had tornado here in Connecticut May 15 and there's lots around. I have a add on as well to take wood.

Perfect segway Brad being you are new to FHC and you mention the 290. Just as an example how truly special this place is and an example of so much good left in this world, here is a little read for you on how I am a proud, very proud owner of a special and legendary Stihl 290. Hope I did this right as am doing this post from my cell phone on the thinking chair.....Whistle....Whistle....
