    Most new trucks have tailgate assist pistons that reduce the weight for opening and closing. Hell some even have power assisted open and close tailgates:picard: Just like minivan doors:rofl: :lol:

    I'm picturing a little ice on that step and my shin being scraped to the bone as it slides forcefully along the edge of the bumper.

    That's about the best possible outcome.

    Now GM's new built in side step into the bed looks more promising.

    There was a few times I cringed hoping I didn't snap my tailgate off or bust a cable loading 4 wheelers and things into the bed.
    My tailgate wasn't one of those that could be easily lifted off to put the ramps on the bed rather than the tailgate.
