I haven't used either or even seen one up close, but i like both ideas. The GM gate seems to solve the problem with the beds being so high on the HD trucks. Thr Ram 60/40 lets you open just a small part to haul long/narrow objects like lumber

The old station wagons had a ton of options with their tailgates, about time the pickups caught up. I think they as a whole are missing out on standard dump features, tool boxes and other ways to utilize the wasted space.

The GM tailgate is only available on the top trim 1500's, and in order to use it, you have to have any hitch out of the receiver.

And when they break or are banged up a freakin tailgate will only cost you $5500.02 to replace. SMH!

not to mention how the Dodge will probably seize up from all the winter salt build up and then rust like He!! come spring. I remember what a folly the retractable side steps on Fords became up here. That is a "Citidiot" trucker owners dream. Most "Citidiots" use the back of the suburbia truck to carry their lunch to work in their cubicle.

Ford has a heated tailgate option too, so your hands won't get cold pushing it home.

Other than being able to use your bumper as a step, I really can't think of where I would use this split tailgate over a normal tailgate...

I'm guessing maybe a regular tailgate is just too heavy for these new "truck" owners?

Or groceries on one side and hockey gear on the other?

    :picard:

2000lb haybales. Those that floor it in reverse, then hit the brakes hoping the bale doesn't break the tailgate when it rolls off.

True nuf', but only 1 in every 30000+ pick ups are used to carry hay bales. Most of them carry 2 bags of groceries from Krogers on a heavy day.......
