Got on some sass today!

Love the smell of this stuff plus it makes great kindling and quick hot fires. Feeling better lately. Don’t plan on getting in the hole on wood again

 

Probably great shoulder season wood down there!!

 

Nice score! I love sassafras, easy to split, smells good, seasons fast, and great to jump start the stove with!

 

Nice even sized rounds there, should make a good amount of splits.

I am officially jealous and envious of another members' scrounge. I LOVE that stuff! I really like the trees and wish i had some that big around here. Ours are only 2"-6" and never saw any that size before. Nice job.

 

Love Sassafras but round here so do the carpenter ants so most come down before they get to big. Great for fire pit and quick hot stove.


The bark can make for some colorful flames.

 

I burned a month's worth recently. Excellent shoulder wood.

 

Lucky you have it down there! I've seen one spindly sassafras tree around here. Never come across it at the dump.

 

I have a fairly large, maybe 18" sassafras that's a leaner and nearly dead next to my lane. It has a lot of woodpecker holes so the wood may be useless. I've been meaning to drop it before it falls across the driveway but the job hasn't gotten near the top of my job list yet. If it falls it will magically move to a #1 priority.

 

A lot of posters have mentioned how nice the smell of sassafras is. Well, whatzit smell like?

 

Hard to describe to me it’s almost like a powerful citrus smell. As kids we would pull the saplings and chew on the roots, tased like...well you guessed it root beer

 

It must be a good wood for smoking meats? Maybe?

There’s an even bigger one I’m gonna go back and get that’s dying! My gramps cut mostly oak so there’s a few of these around the property

 

He Cut mostly red oak. There ain’t a red oak tree to be found anywhere here lol. He cut for 50 years

 

That’s weird cause they grow really straight here. Lots are almost as straight as poplar. I wonder what causes the difference?
