Looks like that window is on a bump out.. Maybe 2 feet more than top of house... If you look close the softet light beige over window has no holes in it... upper one above does so that is vented.. So soffet and ridge vent..

Said all that to say this.. Your shed roof over window should be insulated as part of building envelope. Pic in post 14 shows some blown maybe dense pack on right.. On left low r value;)

Oh I no longer build, but I try to understand as a lot of my friends watch HGTV. Oh I can remove a wall, change x y z.. With no concept of how that changes things. So I like to ask questions and give some basics.

Edit.. Obviously remove the nest and insulate there.

I have no delusions about my abilities or understanding of building. My wife on the other hand... She thinks I could put a addition on the house because I’m somewhat handy.:hair::faint:

So I put a patch in there. Is it ok to just tape and mud over this plaster? I scraped back paint as much as I could. And what about the corners and the spot on the wall where the crack is? Those areas were never taped originally.

I probably wouldn't hurt. Might keep it from cracking again.
Just make sure to fill in the cracks with mud first before you put the tape on. Otherwise the tape will bubble up and the only way to cover it is to cut the bubble out.

Spend extra 3 dollars and buy self sticking mesh tape.

use 20 min mud to fill in the gaps/holes before you tape it, they are too big and will cause problems finishing. If that brown is the paper under the white top paper of the drywall it is going to bubble when you try to finish it.

That system seems like a board base, blue board, then skim coated with a plaster product. It is odd that there is no "tape" in the corner or expanded metal not surprised it is all cracked.

If it plaster coated I would go with 20min mud because it is tougher and will match better. V groove the crack and use the 20 min mud there.

Also you can use the 45 min version give you a little more time to work with it

That’s just what I did. The brown you see is not the paper, it’s paint. You can see some gray areas, that’s scraped right down to the plaster.

Thank you everyone for all the tips. I’ve done a very little bit of drywall before but I’m always game to learn and get experience.

All fixed! Thank you everyone for the tips. Came out pretty good. There’s a little wave in the one side, could probably do a few more coats and straighten it out, probably will never happen though. Hey just call me “better than it was” construction company!

looks great!!! plaster gets a bad wrap but keep in mind plaster is an awesome product!!! it has better sound deadening, and insulating properties than drywall. it is also more impact and water resistant than drywall. drywall is just cheaper and easier. I put drywall in a room that previously had plaster now I run my a/c a LOT more in that room. plaster is almost always cool to the touch.
