Up in the mountain areas what I cut it is mostly lodge pole pine and spruce. You are only allowed to cut dead standing trees.

Down in the high plains around Cheyenne and out in the county areas it is mostly Cottonwood, Elm, Colorado spruce, Box elder, Russian olive, and Green ash. I do see some other pine but I am not sure of what it is.
Mostly what I end up getting is Cottonwood, Elm, Ash and a little Russian olive. Ash is by far the best wood for around here.

What is Russian olive like? Hardwood? Softwood? Never cut any olive wood.

It is a type of Olive tree but I do not believe the fruit is any good for food. It is a dark wood that is better than cottonwood but not as good as Elm. Around here I will burn just about anything. There was a lot of them planted at one time because they are fast growing.
