Any guesses on what would cause the tree in the bottom attached photos of the first post to grow that way? Lightning strike? Branches being knocked down and peeling strips of cambium?
Cedar trees just grow that way sometimes too. I haven't dug up a stump to see if there is a correlation with root branching.
Your first post: First tree that's split near the stump looks like mulberry. As a matter of fact, it looks exactly like a mulberry I just cut a few weeks ago. The tree laying above it and in the next picture, I'm not exactly sure but I'm thinking sourwood based on the bark and how it's growing. The last two pictures are black locust. First post second pics look more like mulberry than black locust to me. look at the bark! Not too sure about the others. Edit - the more i stare at the bark the more I realize I may be wrong here.
