I’ve been using online datasets for years, and impressed with the image quality available in some. The pic below is my wood processing area (2016 based on the stacks) and a little of my woods. I’m able to see stone walls in the woods, the gully where they dug to bury the old lead water line, as well as individual trees. (I smudged over the town name) I think I need a drone for closer detail. In comparison, the Google map is less helpful.
Here.....i can zoom in closer with google map ....plus.....we have a site that allows you to find any property in our county n zoom pretty good on that....borders,land value n tax assessments
American Forest Foundation has an app that allows for the marking of areas on your woodlot. Will also figure the acreage of an area that you mark. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I just purchased a drone. Some crummy screen shots of some video I took of the woodlot. Still learning to fly but the potential to get some good shots and mapping is there as with the right filters it actually takes good still shots. Able to point the camera straight down if wanted. Can update the images as some of the government site photos are not current. Also an easy way to check on the property if you live close to it. The property will be many years before it is harvestable again, but in the last pic, the woodlot below my house has enough trees to last my lifetime. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
