Have a great friend who is going to lend me his Husky 22 Ton Splitter for about a week. Used it before and it runs like a champ. I have about 10 face cords of good size rounds to split (12-24" in diameter). Roughly 6 Ash, 3 Pine and the rest Maple. Going at a steady pace by myself...How long do you think it should take to wipe about the 10 face cords??? Just curious...Thanks
That splitter has a decent cycle speed, so once you get your rhythm, probably 8 to ten hours for easy lighter rounds. Big heavy chit, I'd double that.
What’s 10 face cord? 3 cord? I’d say you could do it on a Saturday and leave Sunday to rest! Realistically if I had three cord of rounds infront of me, I’d plan on that being my weekend goal, allowing for Miller Time and no stacking, just tossing.
A lot depends on your health....if your body says quit maybe you should listen. My days of playing "beat the clock" with firewood are behind me.
This is your estimation of Face Cords per species or the count of individual rounds...? Sorry, long work week here, so I’m asking instead of assuming.
Really depends on how fast you are and the weather.. No stacking a day if your healthy. Weekend with taking it easy.
3 cords, all day, taking breaks and as long as not too many of them are 24". Biguns can slow you down unless you have table(s) on the splitter ( or go vertical - and they still slow you down ). With two (or more) people you can speed up the process quite a bit. Trade off jobs before one gets tired usually means less fatigue.
Not hurrying or lollygagging, I usually do a full truckload in a couple hours with the same splitter. Figure half a cord - this is tossed into a 6' truck bed mounded to the cab with the gate down. That includes stacking time - working alone I prefer to split and stack right away, or split one evening and stack the next. Split into the truck, drive (only on my property loaded like this! 50 yards or so between areas) back up to stacks, stack out of the truck. Lots less bending and to me it seems like less of a chore breaking up the work this way. If you're trying to maximize your splitter time, I think you could reasonably expect to split three and a third cords into a pile in three evenings, or one longer stretch of six hours or so working at a fair pace and breaking for coffee or a sammich. Also I predict that you will fill the tank six times. If you're operating on any sort of incline, do your buddy a favor and let the splitter cool for ten minutes halfway through and check the oil level. Mine drinks A bit of oil if it's not pretty level.
I used to use that splitter. I think I used to average about half a cord an hour, usually splitting maple. That was just going into a pile next to the splitter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nick usually splits a cord in about an hour (give or take a few) me... lol... I can split a face cord in fourty five to fiddy... ~Lissa
A lot depends on how well it splits, how big your splits are, and the percentage that is 12” vs. 24”. My Maple usually only takes a 3” to 4” stroke to pop open. A 12” round will only need to be split once or twice depending on the size of the splits you want. If you have a lot of 24” rounds that require complete strokes and many splits, it would take longer. I figured out I could leave my splitter horizontal and work while seated in a lawn chair, so if I’m feeling ambitious I can go a long time without getting overly fatigued. If things go well you should be able to run the pile through the splitter in a couple of 4 hour sessions with time to spare. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
