I’ve had 2 or 3 of these beasties make their way into my living space. I know they’ve had to come from my stack in the basement. Seem pretty harmless, aren’t quick movers for sure. I’ve never seen one this big before, and it didn’t fly. Any idea what it is? I’m wondering if it’s the reason for the little dust piles under my shag-bark hickory splits. I have more of that species than I ever had before & never had this bug before. It’s probably as long as a pinky finger. I’m thinking powder post beetle but wondering if anyone can confirm.
I always have an abundance of painted hickory borers here when I haul in fresh hickory. Just finished some that they had chomped on.
Yep, my wife does as well. She doesn’t like large insects crawling around and several of these made their way upstairs to our living space.
Be sure to report any sightings of this little bastage to your Natural Resources department, if you run across one. The next scourge upon our forests. Mr. Asian Long horned Beetle.
